Twentypence I found that website & I am working my way through his very long list

Is the chest X-ray for TB if so he is clear, if it's for general health we are stuffed

katie123 I don't have a lot of close family & friends & tbh honest a lot of them won't be around for much longer
Where are you in the UK (you don't have to say)?

KatyMac · 19/10/2008 20:06

I guess a holiday is the next thing to look at (once we find out in principle if it is possible)

OP posts:
twentypence · 19/10/2008 20:20

Specifically they are looking for TB.

KatyMac · 19/10/2008 20:29

That is something we are 100% sure he hasn't got (not in any form) we know this because he has had extensive exploration & tests to see if he has

He would get his pension at what ever rate he was receiving it when we left (I think) & it would never go up

OP posts:
KatyMac · 19/10/2008 20:40

OK - I may have to give up

I don't even seem to be able to book a holiday over there....never mind move

OP posts:
twentypence · 19/10/2008 21:00

That is what my dad said too - it's the never going up thing that bothers him.

What do you mean you can't book a holiday?

KatyMac · 19/10/2008 21:17

It's all to confusing

I'm not very good at holidays anyway - & there are just so many choices

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 19/10/2008 21:20

can you move overseas with health problems i thought every where said no

well oz nz the us etc

katiek123 · 19/10/2008 21:21

hi katymac, we are in the south-west near the welsh border - pretty remote (my londoner bro freaks out here after about 24 hours and has to leg it back to the city) but it reminds us of what we loved about NZ, though of course not quite so technicolour-GORGEOUS (nowhere is, really!)

if you're not too bothered about the people you'd be far from, then you're in a really good position to make a go of it - but i see there are other issues making this hard for you. do try to go on holiday first if you can and good luck!

zippitippitoes · 19/10/2008 21:21

you are after my own heart katy btw

always thinking of a new way forward

KatyMac · 19/10/2008 22:03

OK so we spent the last hour looking at houses, discussing funerals , driving abroad (you seem to be left-hand side too), medical care & jobs

He is still keen - I am not sure how I feel atm - but it definitely needs research

Zippi the way I see it you either sit on your butt & whinge (which I do a fair amount of) or you get off your butt & plan (which I hope I do more of)

There is no point complaining about your life unless you are prepared to do something about it
I lived in Liverpool moved to Plymouth for Uni, London for work (caught a hubby & a baby) moved back to Liverpool for better life & it wasn't so moved to Norfolk

I love Norfolk - but there isn't a lot keeping me anywhere really

Maybe I should move within the UK & open my Nursery somewhere here or just up sticks & move to France or NZ or somewhere

zippitippitoes · 19/10/2008 23:47

well i think better to try than say i always wanted to

but then i have had a try by having a business and building a house both accompanied with a lot of angst

mabanana · 19/10/2008 23:52

My cousin lives in NZ and is totally into dancing (sort of jive stuff) and dances competitively with his fiancee.

twentypence · 20/10/2008 00:41

Driving is the same - apart from

A very odd rule where you always give way to the right, so if you want to turn left and another car want to go into the same street as a right turn you have to wait for them.

And there are no real motorways (certainly not of the miles and miles joining everywhere up variety) and the speed limit is 100km (around 62MPH)

try aaguides or jasons for holiday ideas. Book a flight with Singapore airlines, hire a car and then book into 2 bedroom motel units (have kitchens and living rooms).

Lots of Brits are settling in Nelson and I can see why. Unfortunately on our reccee trip we didn't go to Nelson but it remains a favourite holiday destination.

KatyMac · 20/10/2008 08:39

Nelson, right that goes on the list along with the intriguing 'Bay of Islands' (please don't tell me it's very mundane)

Dancing sounds good (I found 5 pages in your yellow pages)

OP posts:
twentypence · 20/10/2008 10:09

Bay of Islands is lovely - not sure I would want to live there, but it's adorable.

You have to come to Christchurch and Wellington so you can have meet-ups.

KatyMac · 20/10/2008 10:12

You mean on our holiday? (which looks to be extremely expensive btw

OP posts:
KatyMac · 20/10/2008 10:17

Well that is that then.

DH is too old (don't know if that applies for a dependant but he is 56 so we are stuffed

OP posts:
KatyMac · 20/10/2008 10:22

Neither is my early years qualification any good

Oh well it was a nice idea while it lasted

I have seen wood burners in a lot of houses for sale

Well apparently we could move on a business visa (& I could set up my nursery - if I could work out the rules for EY care in NZ)

OP posts:
livinginadreamworld · 20/10/2008 11:52

Katymac.... A NZ holiday may look expensive, but the exchange rate at the moment is wonderful!! My parents have just payed for a month in NZ, and it cost them 30% less than it would have had they paid 3 months ago when they first booked. so a plus for a holiday if nothing else!!

KatyMac · 20/10/2008 12:24

But aren't I paying in £? it will be cheaper when I get there I know

OP posts:
livinginadreamworld · 20/10/2008 13:50

we booked all the flights ect, with NZ companies, so paid in NZ dollars. Paid with cards, so paid in NZ then paid off card in pounds, but far less iyswim....... im not sure if that makes sense, but i know what i mean!......
