Do you feel more or less homesick as time goes on?

I was talking to a friend who is living a long way from home (though still in Germany) and she thinks homesickness gets worse, not better, over time.

It is true for me, I always thought I would not feel homesick anymore after 10 years in the UK, but I still feel very very sad at times, esp when I've been to visit Germany.

I don't know. I really miss being near my sister especially and brother and that my DC hardly ever get to see their cousins, as they don't have any here. I miss my mother as well. It's more the little things like the extra support and talking face to face. I miss the food. But, after 11 years here, the UK is now home. It did take me a while to adjust. My DC and DH are sooo British, I don't know if they'd ever adjust to living over there (US).

although i miss my family and friends and the food and, at times, the sheer convenience of many things, i know i wouldn't be able to live in the US again unless i were rich.

my husband and children are way too Scottish, too.

MmeLindt, lol, you may be right about second honeymoon. Or maybe as my daughter just started school and I chuck gently steer all 3 out of the house at 7.30. Used to take her to kiga at 9-ish so now I find the mornings longer, they're so much more independent and I don't just want to be housekeeping. Think my brain itches, and when I feel a bit unsettled, it's hard to disentangle feelings of vague discontent with homesickness.

Saw job advice woman while waiting for some admin thingy who told me I have more chance of winning the lottery than getting a job here as a foreigner esp after so long. But will put feelers out for some translation work, did some for a winery lately and enjoyed it.

I have been away from the UK for just over 2 years now and the only things I miss are particular foods I can't get here and the faster pace of life. I don't miss family or friends at all.

Was the job advice woman from the Arbeitsamt? Sounds like shite advice to me. Why should you not get a job just because you are a foreigner?

I worked as an English tutor and also did some courses for pre-school kids. I also offered English conversation classes, that is really easy money. I did it at home, 5 Hausfrauen came to the house, we had tea and shortbread for an hour while we chatted then I sent them an email afterwards with any new vocabulary.
