www.expatwoman.com thye ahve a sectio for people in bahrain. Never been myself but it comes highly recommended, sleepier and more cultural than Duabi (not hard I must say). There is def someone on here who lives in Bahrain, hopefully they will be along soon.

good luck with the baby (ds was born in Sept 95) seems like only yesterday sigh......

Hi ShinySarah, just been browsing. I moved to Bahrain last week with my 5 week old and two other DSs aged 3 and 4. Was fun.

Tons of stuff I can tell you and expatwoman is great too. Let me know what you need to know!

Hi ShinySarah

Bahrain is great. Relaxed pace of life, great beaches, good schools, culturally more interesting than most Gulf states. Bahrain is my escape from Qatar where I live (its a 20 min flight).

The plus for mums here is that its easy and cheap to get help around the home.

Enjoy Bahrain.

Hi ShinySarah,
lucky you going to Bahrain! I live next door (saudi arabia) and try to escape to Bahrain as much as possible! It is so much more relaxed in Bahrain, lovely not having to wear abayas and headscarfs like in Saudi!
Fabulous shopping and sunshine so enjoy!

The results of a survey in civil engineering weekly magazine for this week ranked Bahrain as the 'best' place in the Middle East considering about 10 factors. Sounds like it will be fine.

Hi Meowmix, Foxyocin & Mumoverseas
Thank you for your support, you've made me feel so much better!!!
Meowmix, will be in touch soon as will have lots of questions because first baby is due next week! How are the children (especially baby) getting on with the heat? What have you done about the baby's injections?
Look forward to hearing from you!!

Hi Sarah,

Have spent the last 2/3 years in Bahrain. My girls, who are teenagers, have settled well in their schools. We have a good social life, though, for some, it does revolve around the Club. That seems to be because after a hectic typically 6 day work week, one takes the easy option.I have not had any problems finding creature comforts re: groceries, dining-out, clothes, toiletries etc.
Bahrain is a comfortable and amenable place. Like anywhere, you will find some wonderful folks that will turn it into a memorable experience.

Hi ShinySarah, Bahrain really is great. It is expensive - about the same cost of living (except petrol) as the UK but then the salaries are tax free. Expats tend to live in specific areas and it seems to be very sociable and friendly even though it's not easy making new friends when you're getting on a bit. Another great thing is the availability of cheap domestic help. We have a lovely maid who is great with the kids.

DS1 and DS2 are settling nicely in their schools and baby okay in the heat - am limiting it to 20 minutes at a time right now as it's around 40 degrees, the rest of the time, it's stay in the air conditioned house. You'll be fine coming in November - the weather is lovely although it can get chilly in December, January and February so do bring your slippers!

You can contact me directly via CAT if you need to know more - housing, shopping etc but, specifically on innoculations, Bahrain has a similar programme to the UK - Logan is having his first DTP on Thursday . Had thought about a BCG but decided against it for the baby after I saw the state of DS1 and DS2's arms. And local Bahraini children don't have to have it so am applying that to Logan. There are lots of things you'll need to bring for the baby depending on how you're planning to feed/nappy change etc.

Good luck with the baby. When are you due in September?

ShinySarah · 10/09/2008 11:12

Hi DonutMum,
Baby is due on 17th!!
Glad DS1 & 2 have settled well into their schools!
Thanks for all your advice, much appreciated, speak soon!!
