Dyslexia child in France

So I know this is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any experience of moving to France with a dyslexic child (early primary school age)?

I have been researching SEN support in France and it seems to be structured very differently from the UK system.

I would happily consider homeschooling if the French system wasn't working for us, but it seems quite difficult to get permission to home educate.

My DS is dyslexic and we moved to France when he was 9. I chose a private international school that had a good reputation with SEN. I cannot guarantee that all French state schools will be the same; it will greatly vary and you’ll need recommendations. What you will need is an orthophoniste; best to go on the waiting list with an English speaking one as at some point you’ll need a bilan for a PAP (equivalent of EHCP). That said, we’ve not yet got one, but my DS school have always made accommodations for him. I brought his original assessment over for his first school, and for his middle school got a letter from his primary teacher translated into French with useful advice.

Does your child speak French? Bear in mind that there are plenty of homophones in the French language.

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

He doesn't speak French, although we have started teaching him bits and he's watching cartoons in French.
