Anyone living in Namibia?

Are there any mumsnetters out there in Namibia? I have always been interested in Africa and now particularly starting to get interested in Namibia and looking for relocation advice.
I would be mid to late forties at the time of relocation. i would ideally like to be in a small community close to nature but as I probably still have to be working would consider one of the major cities, preferably not the capital for work opportunities.
Can picture myself helping out in a farm or working on reception at a tourist lodge or something along those lines.
Anyone able to offer insight on the daily struggles of life in Namibia? I have heard that there are often issues importing basic products like toilet paper so it's always good to have plenty of non perishables at home.

I'd love to travel there. Sounds like an amazing country.

Did you know it was a German colony and Simon Reeve - fab programme - found there was still Nazi memorabilia in the shops there.

I'm more interested in the Himba who live there.

Yes, I am aware of the colonisation and the genocide at the beginning of the 1900s. The country has a terrible past but beautiful landscapes and nature. Tourism is becoming a lot more popular there and there seem to be more and more opportunities in this area but I would be more interested in getting involved with industries more focussed on the local population rather than tourists. But as there is a high unemployment rate not sure how easy it will be to find work.

Have you ever been to Namibia? Do you have any skills? What work have you done in the UK?

I visited many years ago, having previously lived in Kenya. It had better infrastructure and was a more integrated society, I loved it.

I have heard that they have rather good infrastructure compared to other African countries and Namibia is not as poor as a lot pf African countries but obviously it comes no where near to European standards.

I first trained as a pastry chef then retrained as an accountant with the Big 4. Currently living and working in Spain doing accounting for a multinational. Speak English, German and Spanish fluently which is why I thought it might be easy for me to find something in tourism. Still very much enjoy baking and would be happy to go back in to catering/hospitality.

Had a long relationship and a child with a man from Ghana and visited Africa a few times but never Namibia. But I still think that I have a good idea of the major differences between life in Africa and life in Europe although would like to get some insight about Namibia specifically.
