Teacher couple moving to Perth

My husband and I are both secondary school teachers (English and Science). We have two children who are 5 and 6 years old. We are thinking about potentially moving to Perth, Australia.
I want a more outdoor lifestyle with my children, and really keen for a fresh start.
Has anyone got any advice on money, childcare, teacher pay/cost of living? Anything really to help make sure we make a well informed decision!

Main issue with Perth at present is rental availability and housing costs. Pay rates can be found online at the wa department of education - but the rate is good in WA from an Australian perspective. Particularly secondary. Pay probably higher in private schools.
i live in perth and think its great for family.

But given initial housing costs. Id want a savings buffer. I'd suggest looking for jobs first. Perth is very stretched- so you could get a house and then find a job was over an hour commute and for teaching that would be a pain

We lived in Perth for a while and it was definitely outdoor living and it’s quite a chilled part of Australia. I don’t have anything practical to add as we went years ago and not to be teachers but I think you’ll enjoy it if you do get over there

Permanent move or an adventure for a few years?

If adventure then look at international schools in Asia, often accommodation is provided as well as the kids getting their fees paid. I travelled (not when I was a teacher) with my primary school kids and it was a great experience. You can stick the the English curriculum or move into IB

For a more permanent move, culture shock will be huge. It seems on TV that the UK and Australia are very similar but the differences are there and that can be disorienting and isolating at times. Even phone calls home need to be arrange in advance due to the time difference. It will be a different curriculum and the start of the new school year is in January, same as the UK most jobs start then as well.

Thank you for your message. Sorry I should have said, we are currently both working in International schools in South East Asia. We have been abroad for 4 years, so we are used to a completely different culture.
I am slightly worried about prices and pay. In our international school we have a package which includes flights home, free school places etc.

You probably already know this, but there is a forum with focus on Australia and New Zealand here on Mumsnet. There are some posts there about moving to Australia.

Good luck! I have never been to Perth, but I have heard lots of good things about the city.
