Titre de séjour france

Hi there
ill keep it short as it’s so dull! We are a British family who moved to France 8 years ago. After brexit we ( the adults) had to apply for a visa ( titre de séjour). Our son is about to turn 18 so I will need to also apply for one for him. We have applied for French citizenship for him but it’s such a long process we need the titre de séjour during the wait. He’ll be continuing his studies here ….. the government websites are so vague that I can’t clearly see what type of titre de séjour we should apply for… student? Or the one for children
who have lived in France since age 13 ( seems more complicated!). Not really expecting any replies but you never know…. There might be a mumsnetter who has been in exactly this situation and can point me in the right direction!

There’s a couple of excellent Facebook groups for this, RIFT CR and Article 50 TUE. Worth joining Facebook just for those.

I'd just go to your prefecture and ask, by now they should know what to do. As long as you are all fully papered-up your DS will be fine but it might take a while.

When you get nationality all these problems will be over...

Children who become adults are a missing link in all the Brexit deals, as far as I remember they can lose all their residence rights if they move abroad so be careful of that.

As above you need to join the Facebook group: Applying for french CDS https://www.facebook.com/groups/248686685795058/

I think he should benefit from the A50 withdrawal agreement so it's not the standard application process but this group should be able to point you in the right direction.

My nationality came through just a couple of weeks before my eldest turned 18 so we were spared this hurdle (Cheers Brexit!) but I remember this group was really helpful when I was looking into it for her.

Good luck French admin is never simple!

Thanks so much for all your help - I wasn’t expecting any replies!! I signed myself back up to Facebook so I can access that page! And I agree that going to the prefecture would be a good idea but unfortunately where we live there is no ‘drop-in’…. Everything is online, getting appointments is impossible…. Very frustrating! I have written to them but their reply was some kind of generic ‘have a look at the French government website’ 😖

I feel your pain…..they omitted something essential from my card and I’ve been trying for over a year to get it resolved. I don’t know if you can apply on the ANEF site. France Services are also worth a try.

If you have lived in France for 8 years your titre de sejour will probably be covered under the withdrawal agreement, article 50, it will say on your card. If so your son is entitled to the same which you want to make sure you get to ensure the same rights, especially if continuing in education. Not all the prefectures are aware of this and will issue the wrong carte if not corrected. When my daughter turned 18 she was almost issued with the wrong carte which would have meant her paying when she went to university. Contact your local prefecture online and look how you start the process but as mentioned by a previous poster there are really good Facebook groups setup exactly for these situations.

We are doing this with our 17 yr old DS, same situation re nationality 🙄

I Don’t know if each prefecture handles this differently but for ours (Rhône 69) there us a very specific motif to choose on the online form. You can’t use the étrangères en France site, it has to be your local prefecture site.

the one to choose is Brexit - demande tardive

after that, you get the following choice

we submitted on Sunday night. On Monday morning we received confirmation de depot, then confirmation all was in order and a convocation for a rdv in about 4 weeks! Very different to nationality applications.

Oops picture didn’t show.

Choose Brexit - demande tardive

Then under Nature de titre sollicité you choose:

Mineur britannique devenant majeur (j’ai moins de 19 ans)
