He is out until 5pm-6pm in the UK. Him finishing work at 2pm is one of the benefits of going to Dallas!!

We have strategies in place to manage my health along with parenting.

We may go, nothing has been decided yet. His colleague is going out there soon so we are awaiting some feedback.

I have stated numerous times now we will manage the same as we do now. Life is already tricky!! Also there is no treatment for my health condition that would need to be paid for/insured for over there as the only treatment is self management. Of course we would ensure we have sufficient health insurance otherwise.

I lived in DFW for nearly three years with a young child- lots of fun stuff to do! Suburbs with great libraries for children, pp mentioned Grapevine Mills and splash pads. It is tough to get around if you don’t drive though, so you could find yourself very isolated. Unless you pick an area very carefully, it’s almost impossible to get through daily life without a car.

Thank you.

We will have a car, I just don’t drive myself.

We have friends in Prosper which is near Frisco. We visited them in April. We stayed in Mckinney which was lovely and we found to be friendly. Our friends are very happy there but they are now Trump voters, born again christians and own a number of guns which they keep in their walk in wardrobe. This is all pretty standard and not at all unusual. Our arrival was delayed due to storms in Dallas and giant hailstones but the weather was moderate once we were there. What I found crazy is that you simply don't walk anywhere and everyone has massive cars. One evening we had dinner in one restaurant and then drove 5 minutes for dessert! But you couldnt walk it because its all freeways. The other surreal experience was walking around a shop where gun section was next door to the kids lego section.

DH and I said we couldn't live there. The houses are bigger but very samey and the roads are in excellent condition. Great restaurants and I'd say good service but it was homogenous in many ways. I didn't go to downtown Dallas, we stayed in the suburbs so I can't speak for the city itself

You might get away without a car in Mckinney...

I moved to the States with a 1 year old around 20 years ago. I was without access to a car for a couple of weeks and life was very difficult and exacerbated my initial feelings of isolation and homesickness. Shopping, socialising etc are all predicated on driving somewhere in many (most?) American cities. Only found NYC that bucks this trend.
I had an amazing year there and would say go, but wouldn't have done it without both being able to drive and having access to a car. It's one of the ways we find it a strange old place.

I don’t drive either but I found that Grapevine was relatively to get around on foot and by bike because a lot of it is based around the old Main Street. There are probably a few other suburbs the same, as long as you have help for getting to appointments etc. It was hard not being able to go meet up with friends during the day though, and there were a lot of places I couldn’t get to at all.

I’m very used to not going out without being driven so don’t see any impact from that particular aspect. I believe if I was desperate go out I could take a taxi depending on the right location but really don’t see this being a regular occurrence.

Ubers are extremely easy to get so on the occasion you need to get out, you will be fine.

There are plenty of classes in the afternoons and on weekends in the areas I’ve researched so far. Also my husband’s colleague is going out with their children. The company also organise family bbq’s etc. There are also plenty of activities for children - splash pads, swimming classes, every type of museum you can think of etc, I’ll be able to join in some activities. Also there is Uber so I may be able to manage to go to perhaps one class a week. Also will be looking for an apartment with a pool and park which I could manage some days, husband on others. Our little one certainly won’t be bored. Exactly the same as the UK.
