British food delivery to France options

I've lived in France now for 4 years and have mostly found alternatives and new favourites from the supermarkets here.

But around Christmas there are just some foods that I want for nostalgic reasons or are extremely hard to find/make here.

I used to order from British Cornershop but they went bust then I used The Trading Post but they have stopped delivering to my area.

Has anyone used any British food delivery service that they recommend?

You could try Le Comptoir Irlandais- shops and website with delivery service. Quick too!

Depending on where you live it can be cheaper to get a Ryanair flight with checked luggage and do a return trip just for shopping (although terrible for the environment).
What is it that you're missing at Xmas? I now make my own Xmas puddings, mince pies, and other things like that.

Thanks guys.

I just miss things like boxes of biscuits, sweets like Jelly Babies, mint Matchmakers, crackers for cheese and pulling, paxo (I know! 😂).

My MIL makes the mince pies and I always do a cake, it's just those sort of naff ready made bits from childhood that I miss

Can you get someone in the UK to buy the items and post them to you?

DanceWithYourBalloon · 20/08/2024 09:11

@MagpiePi
Indeed, I used to get my dad to post stuff but since Brexit was rubber stamped it's not worth the price any more.

I stopped using Trading Post as everything was out of stock all the time, well the veggie stuff I wanted was.

I did go back to the UK a few weeks ago and lets just say, there was alot of sweaty extra mature cheddar cheese in the boot when we finally got home.

Do you have any Brit friends or neighbours who drive down and would accept say, a contribution to the fuel to stock up on stuff next time they are over?

Yeah I think we might just have to do ourselves. We are down in the South West so it's a long old drive, but it's a good excuse to see people and stock up.

Think i've seen paxo in Intermarché. Depending where you are in the sw there's a comptoir irlandais in Brive-la-Gaillarde.

BeringBlue · 22/08/2024 21:41

You don't say where you are, but there is a shop in Eymet, Dordogne, called A Taste of Britain that sells the kind of thing you're after. You may find it cheaper to drive to their shop than going back to the UK.

@BeringBlue
Good shout! I'm near Agen in 47, so not too far. Off to google it

Glad to help! They've got a Facebook page that gets updated quite regularly to let you know when seasonal stock is in, for example.

Second the comptoir irlandais, the one near us has nice fresh food to order but also has things like golden syrup and Christmas pudding on the shelves.

We get our tea from twinings which comes from Ireland so no tax and comes in three or four days, and have also bought clothes from Ireland as too many customs charges from UK. There's quite a few shops there which seem to have filled a gap left by UK businesses.

We also go shopping in Belgium which has some good stuff but you might be a long way away from there...

Baconbythebox.com is Irish and delivers to France - they do things like turkey crowns, ham and biscuit tins for Christmas. I get clonakilty sausages and black puddings delivered and freeze them and you can get things like birds custard and Bisto
