lol.

no other sausages will do?

suzywong · 30/03/2008 03:16

oh yes there are plenty, this is just foreplay, a bit of a teaser

in fact I am going through every department of Ocado dribbling over my favourites, irreplacable unduplicatable delicacies that I sorely miss.

there's nothing quite like this over here either

yum. clotted (ice)cream. i didn't grow up in GB so I can't join in.

what do you use the clotted cream for?

Sugarmagnolia · 30/03/2008 03:48

can we do this the other way around? (american living in GB)

DH orders bottles of the stuff off ebay for me sometimes when I get desperate. Hidden Valley

twentypence · 30/03/2008 05:20

I can't be bothered finding a photo of a melton mowbray pie - but as I am coeliac living abroad is a blessing!

Really strong salt and vinager crisps are about the only thing I miss but my dc who were reared in Germany can't live without marmite and branston. Ds starts to worry when the marmite pot gets half empty.

CinderellaInCyberspace · 30/03/2008 10:42

really strong chedder cheese

and really soft bread
and marmite
better stop now

CinderellaInCyberspace · 30/03/2008 10:43

oooohhhhhh donuts with respberry jam
yum.....not things called 'krapfen'
im hiding the lap top now

admylin · 30/03/2008 10:48

How about yorkshire puds with gravy (I just can't make them here and I don't know why).
Good freshly made mint sauce - only good with the right vinager.
I'm getting hungry now too.

You're right, the chedder here is so mild, you need a good strong mature chedder to make cheese on toast.

cameroonmama · 30/03/2008 10:56

I'm with Califrau, Kenyan-made Cadbury's or this? There's no competition

Kindersurprise · 30/03/2008 11:04

Scotch eggs as a guilty treat.

Cadburys hot chocolate.

Heinz beans (the ones we get here are not the same, despite being made by Heinz)

Barrs Irn Bru (although a can a year does me, it is more the nostalgic taste of summers past)

Meat pie from Nichol's Rosebank Bakery in my hometown

Chicken Kiev

Fish and Chips

Damn you, Suzywong, you have got me hungry for stuff I cannot have now.

Admylin
My brother can make FANTASTIC yorkshire puds, he says they are not difficult. Shall I ask him for the recipe?

admylin · 30/03/2008 11:28

Yes please KS and ask if he uses a certain kind of flour too, thanks! In the UK mine work every time so don't know if it's my oven or my flour!

Othersideofthechannel · 30/03/2008 13:08

Another vote for really strong cheddar. Luckily we get to GB four times a year and are visited equally often so the periods without just help me appreciate it more.

franke · 30/03/2008 13:13

Oh yes, cheddar cheese, Branston and Fish and Chips.

And funnily enough, a decent piece of beef. We bought rib-eye from Asda when we were over last summer - can't find anything remotely comparable here in Germany.

Rosa · 30/03/2008 13:22

Proper Cornish Pasties
Cadburys ( anything)
Clotted cream must be super fresh
Heinz salad cream
Grape nuts cereal
red Leicester cheese
Eccles Cakes
Really good fish and chips
My mums apple pie
In fact anything my mum cooks.
Roll on summer...........
There is a web site that does parcels but if I remember correctly the postage was huge!

nappiesgalore · 30/03/2008 13:25

when i go and visit one of my oldest pals who now lives in spain, i always take lots of strong cheddar for he and her catalan bf, who also likes it muchly.
i am a Good Friend

anyone gets desperate for a care parcel from uk for spec occasion or summat, shout me, i like doing stuff like that. makes me feel all warm inside. arf.

eidsvold · 30/03/2008 13:29

see at least for us aussies - they made a shop so we could get out delicacies - or at least our sweets etc from the Aussie SHop in Covent Garden when desperate.

Perhaps there is a business for you there Suzy - you could manage/open the first Waitrose in Perth!!! No doubt with a huge expat community - you would have plenty of customers.

Kindersurprise · 30/03/2008 13:29

Oh, Nappiesgalore is going to be innundated with requests for Cheddar and Branston Pickle.

My Mum is good at bringing stuff over. And there are a couple of British Shops here.

Any other Germany-dwellers weep when M&S closed their stores in Germany?

nappiesgalore · 30/03/2008 13:33

yeah suze, i'll be your uk buyer.
as if. the prices would be astronomical by the time we got them there... which is why no-one does i guess

hellish · 30/03/2008 13:35

Oh Cumberland sausages, forgot all about them, it's been 2 years...
My kids miss Heinz Crema of Tomato soup
For me it's nipping out to the chippy for a treat that I miss the most.

BTW I make great Yorkies, only since I couldn't get Aunt Bessies.

suzywong · 30/03/2008 13:38

Nope Sugarmagnolia, Brits Only. Awfully sorry, but that's just the way it is on this thread.

FleurDelacour · 30/03/2008 13:53

I miss proper (non-UHT) milk, Yorkshire tea, unsmoked bacon, English pancake/Yorkshire pudding mix, fresh cream. But we are lucky lots of UK stuff is available in Singapore. Have just had Waitrose frozen cheesecake for tea .
