Ryde, NSW - anybody know it?

We might have found rather affordable and not too shabby looking short term accommodation there.

Would it be any good as a base to check out North Sydney/North Shores or is it too far over? Looking at the Map it's sort of SW of Chatswood but no idea how far it really is

TIA

It's as good a place as any tbh as a starting point. You'd be about 10/15 minutes away from the Pacific Highway from there. Sorry, I can't remember exactly which suburbs you were looking at to live in, but the Pacific Highway pretty much follows the North Shore train line so you will have easy access to Pymble/ Turramurra/ Waitara etc. from that road. I don't think Ryde is the nicest of areas (by which I mean older houses, smaller block sizes etc. rather than anything more sinister) but obviously we all like different things! I know some people who live in North Ryde who are very happy there.

Do feel free to e-mail me again if you want any more info. I have a vague recollection of replying to your e-mail in a very ditzy fashion Possibly one of my more chaotic days!

I miss you sunny sunny sunny, how are you?

I live grew up in Ryde and recently returned to live in the suburb with my DH and DS. It's a great place for kids, with quite a few schools around as well as parks. There was a central shopping complex, but they've torn it down and are rebuilding it. There are quite a few others in the area though. There are bus routes running through various areas, and they've almost complete a new train line to connect Ryde and surrounds to Chatswood/North Sydney/City faster.

I'm not sure I'll live here forever, but it's not a bad place to live at all.

I read the title as Ryde IOW

I was thinking, well the Isle of Wight isn't on the British mainland but it's hardly overseas is it

MrsBigD · 28/03/2008 20:24

Hmmm Ryde, IoW... guess it's 'over the water' LOL

fairyfly, am totally puzzled now (or maybe it's just the effects of 2 glasses of wine). Are you one of the Brighton crew? (in which case you'll totally understand the wine thing ).

I'm good generally, on days when I don't think OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE MOVING TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD TO A PLACE THAT'S SOOOOOOOO EXPENSIVE TO LIVE IN! Then again, the sun is shining, the pool is sparkling so I guess it't not such a bad move.

MrsBigD · 31/03/2008 07:47

sunnydelight... puzzled and hassled is my general state of mind LOL

And now I'm not of the Brighton Crowd. But I can see how you arrive at that conclusion. I used to be of the West London Crowd but now am of the Marlow Crowd

But I do understand the wine thing, though unfortunately since having had kids my tolerance = 0

As for soooo expensive to live in... surely can't be worse than London? well at least the weather is better LOL
