Having a baby in Dubai

bunhead34 · 05/03/2024 20:23

Hi,
we are moving to Dubai in May, and I am due my second baby in July.
looking for any info I may need to know about having a baby in Dubai!
also, it feels like a stupid question,
but what should a newborn baby wear in Dubai? I guess bodysuit and swaddle at night seeing as there will be air con.
Will it be too hot to put baby in a sling??

thanks

You can turn AC off, but you won't want to in the summer. Baby clothes are the same as everywhere else. Just check baby's temp and comfort level. Where do you plan to use a sling? I've never seen them used here. Malls, restaurants etc are wheelchair/pram friendly.

Having a newborn in the gulf is basically the same as anywhere else. You turn the Aircon to a comfortable temp, 19/20 degrees. Then follow the sleepwear guidance for that temperature.

I use a thin soft sling, like the ergobaby embrace or the freerider wrap. You don't see many people use them and I wouldn't use them in high summer outside but the rest of the year it's fine.

You don't put baby under the Aircon vent and if it's a small room you can use a canopy type thing over the cot so it's not blowing on them directly.

The gulf is one of the most child and baby friendly places on the planet.

Hope that's helpful!

Sorry I've just clocked that that it will be the hottest time of the year, just don't go outside much, only very early morning. Baby can just wear a vest and you can use a sling anywhere indoors.

It's very easy to stay indoors, everywhere is air conditioned, and baby will be fine just going to and from the car even in the hottest temps.

I’m having a baby in Dubai in June.

If you haven’t arranged a hospital yet then Kings College in Dubai Hills is excellent (I had my other children there and had a great experience).

Summer babies here are a bit more difficult (especially if you have a c-section and can’t drive).
We mostly just stayed in places with air-con (everywhere indoors has it) and I dressed my children accordingly (most places are about 20 degrees). The UAE is really geared up for hot summers so there’s plenty to do indoors.

It does mean that you get the winter here just as baby starts to be more active. There are loads of great parks and beaches etc. I’d also recommend joining various mums/parents groups on social media, there are lots of play dates and baby/toddler activities where you can meet people and get advice etc.

congrats. You’ll find it helpful to join a Facebook group called British Expats Dubai.

Lots of useful advice and info.

Research your parental rights before you give birth there. Some women travel so they do not give birth in Dubai. Do your research.
