Dreaming of a Perth-fect life down under…

G’dayyyyyy!

This year it is my aim for my DD & I to relocate to Perth. Financially, our house is currently for sale and we will stay with relatives when it is sold in order to allow us to make some more savings.

My sister & her husband are both permanent residents there so fortunately they are able to sponsor us.

My other option is a skilled visa as my occupation is on the approved list.

My first question is, has anyone applied for either visa and do you have any tips? Any advice on the turnaround times?

We are eager to try and make the move this year as my DD is 13, the school system there works differently to the UK so I’m keen to get her settled so she can hit the ground running with Year 10 there, in preparation for 11 & 12 assessment years. Any advice/thoughts on the school system?

Currently undecided as to whether we will opt for public or private education but have already researched schools in the area and made a short list.

Areas I am considering are : Hillary’s, Ocean Reef, Joondalup, Waneroo. North of the river.

It’s all very exciting and we can’t wait!

Please note, this isn’t a “should I move to aus post”, as the decision has been made. It’s more of a general chat if anyone can offer any thoughts.

Thank you for reading!

Side note but wouldn’t a 13 year old be going into year 8 in Australia? My 14 year old just finished year 9….

Hi, she is almost 14… so I based the move age on a years time when she would be almost 15. If we manage to get visas sorted earlier than great!

That makes sense! Perth is gorgeous especially the beaches.

Ahhh great to hear! We are both really excited. It’s strange because you would think a move this big I would be worried but I don’t feel that at all!

How wonderful for you and your daughter!
I have heard such great things about Perth.

Since you have your sister in the area you probably already know a lot about it,
but you can also find people to talk to on the Australia & New Zealand-board.

I like your choice of suburbs. I’m happy this way.

I second getting in that Aussie MNers board. We're (generally) a friendly bunch and you'll get lots of helpful advice on there.

Plus empty and devoid of any soul. There is not much civilization around it for thousands of miles.
