Portuguese residency legally

Looking for advice please

My sister in law is currently in Portugal on a work visa, she was on course to get her papers submitted for residence permit. However, this is now not happening.

She is looking for a way she can legally stay in Portugal, she is married to a Norwegian national.

The job she was based in was a job through her FIL business.

My question is, is their anyway for her to get Portuguese residency legally.

She is estranged from her husband and likely to get a divorce, she is originally a Pakistani national.

If only she was from Goa...

Is she likely to be able to stay in her job if it's linked to her soon to be ex husband's family?

No, she won't be able too.

This isn't helpful at all but she needs local legal advice. My sister and her husband and adult child (born in Portugal) recently went through this and it's insanely complex and lengthy, even for what should be straightforward cases. Brexit has made an already difficult process even harder!

Is your sister a British Citizen? If yes, has she been in touch with the Embassy, looked on the UK Government website for information?

I second the previous poster, your sister should get a lawyer who knows about the process and take their advice, no-one here is likely to be able to help as they won't have a working knowledge of the Portuguese system.

Not sure why brexit is relevant when ops sil is a Pakistani national? I wasn't aware Pakistan had anything to do with brexit.

Because the complications due to Brexit and many UK nationals applying for residency have made the whole process much lengthier, regardless of whether the specific application concerned is directly affected. The government department responsible is overwhelmed. It was always a massive shitshow and Brexit has just made it worse.

If she has sufficient money from the divorce she could try the Golden Visa route but she’ll need at least €500,000 for urban property, €400,000 to spend on property in a low density population area or €380,000 plus the funds to do up somewhere in an urban regeneration area.

If she can raise the funds to buy somewhere where she can live and then maybe rent out space it’s possible, the scheme ends this year though.
