Options of moving to Portugal

Wondering what are the options to move to Portugal. Has the Golden visa ended? Are there any other types of visas available?

I got a British Passport and a South American passport (not Brazilian sadly)and DH has a British and Australian passport?

Also, if anyone has advice about buying property in Portugal I would be grateful. Either to live permanently or a holiday property.

Thanks in advance

Bump as also interested about the property side

are you able to apply for a digital nomad visa?

The Golden Visa has not closed yet, but the vote on it is being held next week. It already excludes all coastal provinces, so you would inevitably be searching for an inland property.

Depending on your age and circumstances, there's the D7 visa if you are retired and can prove your income is at least a multiple of Portugal's minimum wage (IIRC x4, so at least 2800 euros monthly).

Or if you are younger, there are digital nomad visas, as well as investment in business or commercial property.

I've been reading about all this, but I am not an expert, so please do not rely on any of this as advice.

@EffortlessDesmond has it right about the Golden Visa and other visa options.
Property prices in Portugal have really escalated in the last few years, it's become a very popular country to relocate to, not just for UK citizens.

Not sure if you know which area you'd want to buy in but if not research carefully and possibly try renting first.

I live in Portugal, made the permanent move a couple of years ago having had a holiday home here for many years. It's not perfect, I don't think anywhere is, but I think it's a pretty wonderful place to live.

Thank you everyone. We are purchasing an apartment in East Algarve; it will be a holiday home until we are ready to move there in a few years when we retire.

We decided against the golden visa as too complicated and expensive and limited time to apply. We will look into the D7 visa.

Hopealone:?Do you mind me asking you which area you live? How did it go with the holiday home? Did you rent it? Did you move before Brexit?

We are also in the Algarve near Carvoeiro. Didn't rent when we first had holiday home but after moving here we purchased another property and now rent out the original property as holiday accommodation.
We went via the D7 visa route, post Brexit.

One thing to be aware of is that the Government here are making changes regarding allowing or not of licences for holiday rentals and associated taxes. It's mainly due to shortage of housing for Portuguese people on lower incomes. I would make sure you have properly checked the implications of the changes if you are intending to rent.

Thank you, that’s very helpful
