Are books in the US cheaper than UK?

Well I want to start stocking up on books to take on holiday to the US. Alot of it is going to be boring sitting around at relatives house and I'll be doing alot of reading.
Should I wait and buy books there or try and get them here or at the airport maybe - no that won't work as we fly from Amsterdam (live in Berlin)

I find them cheaper here, what with all the 3-for-2 and supermarket deals.

I know I love buying books in the UK - so cheap and I'm in Germany so really miss having the choice of English books. I can read German ones but it's more relaxing with English.

I read a lot of 'mainstream' authors and american thrillers and I find them cheaper in the states and even in Walmart. I think it depends on what kind of books you want to buy/read really.

No, they're expensive in the US. And just not the same.

No, not just you. I like nothing better than my mum bringing a big pile of British books. I like the glossy covers, the British spellings & and they smell different.

I've found that the binding and paper quality of US books isn't as good as UK books. When I lived in Berlin I used to buy a lot of books from a shop owned by a Bostonian, and most of his books came from the US. At the time I think the prices were much the same as the UK. For you it will probably depend on what the exchange rate is like when you travel.

Do you have an address that you can send books to in the UK and are you passing through the UK? If so you could always have a look at some of the budget sites online.
