Holiday in UK when permanent resident in France

Was wondering if anyone's done this since the end of the transition period with Brexit.
I'm thinking of doing a short channel hop from Calais to Dover by car and was wondering about the return trip.
Have a French car, UK passport and am British with a full all-singing dancing titre de séjour.
Anyone done this, and were there any problems at Calais/Dover?
TIA

Yes, several times, but from Italy.
Travelling on UK passport both ways.

I'm unsure, in fact was going to ask on here (so thank you for pre-empting) if there's a way not to get the UK ppt stamped due to being a permanent EU resident. Because the issue will come if anyone notices that potentially too many days have been spent in the EU. (they won't have been, because of the permanent residence, but it will look as though they have iyswim? )

I've made a complaint however to BA about how my British /Italian daughter was treated at Gatwick the other week. The woman checking her British passport kept quizzing her as to how she'd got it, and where her visa to live in the UK was. 🙄

Why would there be a problem? I imagine hundred of Brits resident in France go back and forth all the time. So long as you can show your CdS if asked I can't see an issue.

We've done it many times since Brexit.

Just make sure you show your residency card when you hand over your passport so that it doesn't get stamped.

Sorry realised didn't answer your first question. I imagine your ppt will be stamped out and then back in.

Oh the French are so efficient 😂 ours coming in and out of Italy are always still stamped despite a suitcase full of documents.

Thanks for the replies, stupid, but on my own and was worrying slightly about it.

Just tuck your CdS into your passport photo page when you hand it over. They don't stamp the passport with the CdS, but you need to show it both ways at every border post. I've done it with French CdS and a green card from another EU country.

They shouldn’t stamp your passport coming back in or leaving when you show your residence card. I can’t travel to the UK directly from my country of residence and the Netherlands have been fine with my residence permit and don’t stamp.
l got one stamp last year leaving Croatia but not coming in.

ColonelSpondleClagnut · 12/04/2023 13:48

Don't worry about whether you get stamped or not. Your residence permit overrides any passport stamps so it really doesn't matter. I've a bunch of stamps, usually from exiting Schengen but some from entry and I've never had a issue. Just hand over your residency permit with your passport and all should be well! I was stopped at LHR a while ago to check that I was allowed to enter the EU (the computer had presumably flagged me!) but again, border force just checked my residence permit and it was fine. They didn't care about any passport stamps.

@So1invictus do you not have a permesso di soggiorno permanente? It’s not obligatory for pre Brexit Brit residents but it makes life easier when travelling, you just hand it over with your passport and no one stamps anything.

Not yet. The nearest questura that is supposedly going to deal with them has had an email address for appointments since 2021 but still no appointments given. I wrote again a couple of weeks ago, but still nothing.
What I did print for DD (dual Italian/UK) was the stato di famiglia and residenza so they wouldn't stamp her UK ppt in and out (she's got to renew her Italian one when she comes home from uni) and it didn't get stamped, so next time I'll do the same for me.
The only permesso I ever had was the Carta Europea.

We've been back to the UK a few times since Brexit. DH travels on his UK passport and he's never had it stamped. The French guys usually ask where we live (we cross using the tunnel and have a German car, DS and I travel on German passports...also never stamped...) if we forget to hand over DH's residence card.
The British ones usually ask questions about where we are heading and how long we are planning on staying in the UK. Not have had any issues so far.
(We've had the questions at the airport when entering the UK and when returning to Germany before as well.)
