Adult children of French parent getting a French passport..?

I've been trying and failing to understand the French gov website on this topic, so am trying the wise people of MN...

DH has a completely French mother, so as recently applied for and been given a French passport (as he is French par filiation). He's never lived there (born and brought up in UK).

Now our 18 year old (and tbh all our younger children should too) wants to get her own French passport. Can she? She's the child of a French passport-holder; does anyone know anything about the process she'd have to go through, and how long/difficult/expensive it is..?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

This is interesting, I didn't think my kids would be able to get French passports. My mum is French. I don't even have a French passport myself and have not got the ball rolling as I didn't think there was much point. We could all do it and then leave poor dh in the long non-eu queue when we travel!

the only claim that DD18 has to a French passport is the fact that her father is French par filiation on his mother's side.

I know this is old but there is this exact scenario in my family and the kids, two over 18, just got French passports (after a lot of faffing with the consulate).

@EmmaPaella would you mind walking us through the process for that..?

No, you'd take him with you to the EU counter as the third country spouse of an EU citizen travelling with you. Section 2.1.2 of the " Practical Handbook for Border Guards" issued by the EU refers - see the first example given.

I am sorry, I don’t know the exact process. I think they had to register the kids first with the consulate as pps have said. but I do know they did definitely manage it - the Dad is a UK born child of a fully French mother.

Ps I will try to find out and update you - I know from living in France myself that it will be longwinded 😉

Pity having two French great uncles does not get you a French passport!! I'd love to have one.

Post-brexit we're all desperately scraping around for EU connections Sad

(I see that Farage himself is currently getting his excuses in ready to relocate.)

You are French if either parent is French.
