barcelona over easter weekend

We are going to Barcelona in march, and will be arriving the thursday before good friday.

As ds has food allergies, and we are staying in an apartment, I was hoping to find somewhere on the first day to buy some pasta, veg etc that he can have if we have trouble with finding him food he can eat. Also, food for breakfast, nappies etc.

Will many places be open over the Easter weekend? and how about restaurants, cafes etc (I have checked and a lot of the museums etc will be open).

thanks

(btw, I had posted this in travel before, but was hoping for more replies in this section )

Where abouts are you staying? You should find restaurants open but shops on Friday, Sunday and Monday will probably all be closed. Let me know the area and I can advise further

we are staying right near the sagrada familia.

do you know of a supermarket nearby we can stock up in?

Hi ratbunny/bunnyhunny! We (dh, myself and ds1 and ds2) were in Barcelona last Easter and we also stayed in an apartment just off Las Ramblas. On Easter Sunday we did a bike tour (Fat Tyre Bike Tour) of Barcelona which took us to the Sagrada Familia and then we had lunch in a cafe on the beach. As I recall, all the restaurants were open and so were the supermarkets. We certainly did not have any problems finding food or Sangria! However, we spent 4 days in Barcelona and then 4 days at Port Aventura and Easter Sunday was the only dry day of the week so pack an umbrella. Hopefully you will have much better weather than us. Have a wonderful holiday

thanks - I can worry a bit less now

Hi ratbunny.

There is a "supermarket" that is open every day called Opencor where you can get everything you need including fresh fruit, veg and meat. The nearest one to Sagrada Familia is on Paseo San Joan, other than that you might find a few shops near the Ramblas that will be open on Sunday but they mainly sell booze, crisps and chocolates none of the main supermarkets open on Sundays here.

You should be fine for restaurants though.

You should be ok with the weather, we're having a bit of a drought - hasn't rained properly for months.

thanks for that! It is just having back up food for ds that I am concerned about. We don't need shops for anything else - quite happy to get a coke and chill out people watching or playing with ds in a park for most of the holiday!

I was in Barca this time last year- had a wonderful time - really beautiful city.

Cant offer any advice re supermarkets but can cant recommend the tourist buses highly enough - they were great, got a 2 day ticket and managed to see almost all of the city. Was great being able to hop on and off... actually waddle would be a more acurate description - I was 7 1/2 months pregnant at the time!

Hope you have a fab time!
