Hi I was hoping somebody could help ! Husband and I British born children born in Canada. When applying for British passport they are asking for Grandparents marriage certificates okay for one set but mine are divorced and don't have it ! Is it okay to send a letter to say that with the documents ? Has anyone else been in this situation?

Thank you.

I’d call them to check. Can’t you just order it through the GRO? Should be easy enough to find. When we applied for our DS (also born abroad) only 2/6 birth certificates (ours plus all grandparents) were the full form so we had to order full copies through the GRO. It’s really easy to search and order.

Order a copy of your parents marriage certificate.
It's not expensive.

I needed these to prove DS was British (also in Canada). XH wasn't even involved in his life at all, so I didn't have access to the documents. I knew grandparents names so just did a search and request for the record. Do you know their names? If so, shouldn't be too tedious.

It seems strange but it doesn't make a difference that your parents are divorced. I had to do this to get a British passport for my half-European DD born in Europe. As PP have mentioned, just order copies. In the end I did this for the marriage cert and my parents' birth certificates to avoid having to send the original copies backwards and forwards.
