My husband’s likely starting a new job in Lausanne this summer and he’s out there today touring the schools and the area with a relocation company.
I have two girls. My oldest is very sweet, sensitive and shy, and my three year old is a ball of energy who fits in anywhere.
For anyone out there, we’re looking at ISL, Haut-Lac & Champettet in Pully. These were recommended to us but I’m open! We were advised to choose school and then our location. My husband will likely have a better commute in Switzerland so we’re not bothered about that. Every school out there seems lovely so I want some help and local knowledge.
I’m a SAHM recovering from long covid.
I realise you can’t have it all, but if I could…
Me: Live in a community where everything is close & we can feel settled…
Children: Friendly school where the kids can keep up with their English and learn French, so they can make the most of this opportunity!
Mummy’s list of wants:
I’d like to walk or cycle my electric cargo bike to school (obviously weather dependant), I don’t have as much energy as I used to but I’d like to make friends, logistically without driving all over the place/taking lots of public transport (too tiring). I do drive but its my least favourite mode of transport and I don’t love traffic. I’ve also never really driven abroad.
Currently, we live right by a school and its so easy to linger for chats, make friends and meet up for impromptu playdates and coffees. I love this about my stage in life.
I speak bad French, but I’ve lived abroad and learned a language before, so I’m not worried about all of that. I quite like the process and the challenge etc.
Questions about schools:
How brutal is it for kids to do the immersive thing, if we were to send to local schools?
How did you go about making friends with other parents? How did you find the experience?
Also, any top tips with easy places to live would be appreciated. I tire more easily sometimes so easy of shopping/living vs schlepping about for hours to rub basic food/life errands/playdates.
Thank you so much
