First Christmas after moving

We moved to Canada in July this year so this is our first Christmas since moving. I’m finding it really difficult, missing things from home including Christmas food treats! Missing family and traditions from home. It was obvious that the first year would be the most difficult so not surprising really but just wondering if anyone’s been in the same boat and does it get easier after the first year?

This is also our first Albertan winter too so that’s been a shock to the system! 😂

Anyone here moved from the U.K to Canada and can give tips to embrace the festivities here without family?

Happy Christmas Eve 🎄🎅

Hey- didnt want you to go unanswered. First Christmas back in UK for me after 14 years in ME/Asia. The hardest thing was it inevitably not living up to all my UK Christmas fantasies as my kids are now stroppy pre-teens who just want V-bucks and moan when I make them get off the playstation to make polite conversation with Granny. Also it's cold (hey, it's comparative, ok??). The other thing I found tricky was it seemed to go on forever but no-one seemed that festive, whereas in Asia, it doesn't have a big build up and a lot of the population doest really celebrate (lunar new year is their biggie), but those that do celebrate get really into it and go all out.

We've not moved no, but Christmas isn't always as good as we remember is it? We've all got the horrible bug that's doing the rounds in the UK so Christmas had been really quiet for us Flowers

Very strange for us at this first Christmas overseas - its 30 degrees every day and just does not feel like Christmas!

I miss the food and feeling like its winter. But on the plus side we went to the beach and the kids swim in the pool....

I was already no longer in the UK so had already come to terms with being in a country which celebrates differently (less exuberant)

Thanks for the replies. Definitely agree that it’s easy to reminisce of times gone by and just remember the good. It’s always over in a flash too!
looking forward to seeing what 2023 brings for us here. Happy New Year all.
I hope you’re feeling better @PritiPatelsMaker 😊
