Anyone else’s Christmas travel plans being disrupted by strikes?

We booked ages ago to go back to the UK to stay with siblings and it looks like the travel is going to be either hellish or impossible.

I totally understand the reasons why people feel the need to strike but after three years of not seeing my family at Christmas, I am so disappointed. Anyone else?

Not me, but DH has relatives from abroad coming to the UK. They will spend Christmas in Paris, then have various train train/possibly flights planned within the UK from 27th Dec till just after the new year. I don't know their exact itinerary, nor if they are coming via eurostar- but if the strikes go ahead- I'm sure they will be disrupted.

I think we could be ok 🤞🏼 flying in on 22nd so before the strikes start and leaving on 29th so expecting some delay then but by all accounts it's coming in to the UK that will be more difficult. Of course, the return flight could get cancelled as a knock on effect but we are staying with my parents, luckily DH is self employed and I could take a couple of extra days leave if necessary.

I would be gutted if we couldn't make it though, I have been back recently but we haven't seen my family at Christmas for four years so really looking forward to this visit!

haha @ two Marmites responding! 😃

I hope you have a lovely Christmas, especially after four years without seeing your family Givememarmite! Very sensible of you to choose those dates! Dh has to work right up to Christmas unfortunately, which is why I think we are going to be in trouble.

Good luck to your relatives Marmitecoriander hope their uk trip isn’t disrupted too much.

Has anyone heard any updates about what % of flights might be disrupted?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/12/2022 09:42

Birmingham and Heathrow have said no cancellations due to border force strikes but delays on inbound passengers being processed. Border force don't do outbound passport checks, that's the airline or handling agents. I don't think other airports have commented yet.

We're flying into Birmingham so expecting delays. Ugh. Still have solidarity with them though.

@CuordiMela765 @StrictlyAFemaleFemale
Did you both make it back ok?? I really hope so!
We had a long wait at passport control in Birmingham on Thursday but otherwise all good. Fingers crossed there won't be any delays going back!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 25/12/2022 09:03

We got straight through! There was a line but not massive, but ds has a sunflower lanyard so we were directed to our own lane with one other family.

CuordiMela765 · 25/12/2022 09:09

Thanks for asking givememarmite

Lots of stress beforehand but we did make it through thanks. We had a long wait at Chunnel but made it eventually! So glad you made it too and fingers crossed for a hassle free return journey!

Happy Christmas everyone!

Oh so glad you both got back ok, even though you had a bit of a wait @CuordiMela765
I saw the sunflower lines at Birmingham @StrictlyAFemaleFemale that's a really good idea and great that it helped you it!
Merry Christmas everyone 🎄
