Don't know about life with children, but my childless friend who lives there does all her shopping, including groceries in Sweden, because Norway is so expensive it is well worth the 1 hour ride. She usually carpools with friends.

We moved to Oslo when kids were 2yrs and a baby, now they’re 16 and 14. if you’re wondering about something specific we might be able to help!

Thank you for your replies.

@Barnet I suppose I’m wondering particularly about schooling from my children’s perspective and making friends from my own perspective.

In terms of schooling we are exploring international schools as initially this would be a 2-3 year posting. Do you have any experiences of these?

I will be working remotely so just wondering how I will make friends/ be part of the community.

No experience of the international school, but the one nearby is supposed to be good (Oslo International School) but expensive. They do the IB. Ours went to the local norwegian school. If you’re thinking short term then I would think International school is a good bet. And you would meet the expats. Oslo is a grand place to live, small city but loads going on, fabulous in the summer, long and icy winter.

Finn
Download the Finn app., you buy everything from there, cars to houses to pushchairs, and rent properties.
And post your question on the FB site Brit Mums Oslo, they will have good advice on areas!

I lived in Oslo with a toddler for one year. So I couldn't help with schools as my kid was in kindergarten. We lived at Frogner - awesome place but expensive though. The Eastern part of Oslo is more international, the Western is more local. Depending on what experience you would like to have and what property do you want to have you can consider different neighbourhoods (maybe apartment close to the sea a bit outside of Oslo - Fornebu, or apartment in more urban lively part - Grunerlokka, or a house closer to Ekeberg). But everything you'll find on finn. I would definitely recommend look for a furniture on finn also. You could find really good items there (we bought there a nicely used bolia sofa and even took it to London with us). Also I would recommend to have a look at FB groups (for example "International MOther and BAby Group Oslo"). I arranged couple of playdates there and generally it is very usefull
