New Zealand - property prices

I've been offered a role in Auckland and have started perusing the property boards. There's very scant rental availability so would look to buy. How do I find out the real cost of properties ? Most have by auction or POA. I want to know if its worth the move. I know it is going to be pricey but how do you gauge ?

On this website, there is a "sold" section and you can see the prices of recently sold houses.

Housing in NZ and Australia is crazy.

Have a look at Trademe.co.nz
As Cormoran said ...crazy prices, especially in Auckland considering the small population and the average wage. A two bed apartment in a nice central area is over 600.000 dollars www.trademe.co.nz/a/property/residential/sale/auckland/auckland-city/eden-terrace/listing/3426068735

www.homes.co.nz lists recent sold prices.

The market here is brutal but prices are looking like falling. I believe you need residence to buy.

Rentals are also tough with lots going through friends etc these days. You can set up alerts on trademe for new listings. I would not recommend taking a rental you have not seen.

As a previous poster has said, you cannot buy unless you have NZ residency.

House prices are looking like falling, but it’s impossible to imagine that they will fall significantly.

if you’re looking for a family home in Auckland, a ballpark is going to be about the $2M mark.
