The Krankies and their Kool Kids Kamp are huge in Bratislava.
Allegedly.
Who would ever find the need to translate such a catchy name?

the americans do it (cf Dunkin Donuts) but I suspect you meant non-English-speakers

How about 'Kiabi' clothes chain in France which is a phonetic spelling of 'qui habille'. Is that the sort of thing you mean?

There are lots of anglicisms in France. Our village hairdressers is called 'nouveau look' and the kids clothes often have English words printed on them, usually a combination which mean nothing in English but obviously sounds cool (to the French).

They spell things phonetically in Spain.
Para los pekes....para los peques (pequeños)...meaning for little ones

well i suppose it's no worse than kwik fit or using grammar incorrectly like "I'm lovin' it". took me a while to get used to it, must drive learners of English mad. No wonder children can't spell any more.

expatinengland · 10/01/2008 20:23

Yes, they do that in the US too, and I can't stand it.

(I also don't like it in the movies when somebody enters a room, and doesn't close the door.)

I know this is weird. Ha! It still bothers me.

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 10/01/2008 20:28

Expat

Why have you changed your name to ExPatinEngland ??

Or are you some one else, who is unaware that there is a ExpatinScotland????

Oh Lordy this is going to get confusing.

Bluestocking · 10/01/2008 20:28

They do it in India - there are restaurants called Kwality.
