Cut my losses or stick around?!

I'm in France and am fed up with it. I'm eligible for citizenship now but it can take up to 2 years to get 🙄
I can't decide whether to cut my losses or stick around. But sticking around feels a bit like watching life pass me by. Anyone else in a bit of a limbo feeling?

Depends. Do you have dc? Partner? Job prospects in U.K? Do you have a permanent residence permit in France? I would be careful about making such a decision when feeling despondent, the grass can look greener and all.

I recently moved back to Britain for friends and family reasons, I wouldn’t move to Britain for anything else atm. I knew I was very ready to move when I did. I only did because I can move back without problem when I want to.

What are the benefits of citizenship for you personally? Obviously, you would get an EU passport but how big a deal is it in terms of your circumstances? If it would confer massive benefits for work opportunities and you'd be likely to pursue them, then I'd probably do the two years. If it wouldn't, I probably wouldn't.

I know what you mean about limbo. I was ready to leave where we are in summer 2019 but kind of need to stick around to summer 2023 so that the timing works better for the DC's education. I decided to do a masters and learn a sector critical language so I'm better positioned for UK job market. It stops me feeling as though I'm just treading water.

Bonsoir,

OP, you don't say what life stage you are at. I'm eligible to apply for citizenship next year and I don't care how long it takes because I have no intention of returning to the UK. I have my 5-year carte de sejour for now and that makes me happy, because France is my home.
