And if so what were the consequences if any? I'm about to quit, but unfortunately am no longer in my trial period. I've been reliably informed that you're 'not allowed' to quit from a CDD, and that you can even be taken to court over this. I think that's a bit extreme and was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with this they would share with me?

I did have a CDD and if I remember rightly it depends why you want to leave.

I'm sure you can leave for a CDI without any problems.

Likewise if you prove 'faute grave' by your employer. Just as they can sack you for 'faute grave'.

Or if you come to a mutual agreement.

Otherwise I believe it can be tricky.

I didn't leave mine

Exactly, that's my understanding. Thing is I want to leave for another job, but which is also CDD, but one i think i will enjoy much more. Obviously that's not going to be a reason they'll appreciate here, so do I lie and say i've got childcare issues or something that makes it impossible for me to work anymore, or do i come clean and tell them the jobs just not for me and I want to leave???

plus i'm not in a position to give more than a week's notice, hence the idea of making up a difficult situation to get out asap. It's difficult when you don't know people well enough to imagine how they would react.

That's a really difficult one!
If you miss the other opportunity, are you likely to be able to find a similar one when your CDD is up? Or is this your only chance?

Belgianchox · 07/12/2007 19:53

well i did it; i quit, telling them that i had a childcare problem and they seemed fine with that. I mean such is life, it seems madness to me to make someone stay in a job they don't want anymore.i start new job in a weeks time in one of the nearby ski resorts.thanks for the input anyway!

I hope the new job goes well. What will you be doing?

Belgianchox · 07/12/2007 22:44

receptionist in a 4* residence, should be a vast improvement on what i'm doing now, I will at least get to see plenty of people, and may even get some snowboarding in on my 2 hour lunchbreaks!
Whereabouts are you in france?

I had a CDD (now thankfully back in blighty ) and seem to recall the notice period was given in the contract - I can't remember off hand whether it was 1 or 3 months. I've never heard of anyone having problems leaving one. Certainly the guy who had my job before me left mid-contract with no repercussions.

Hope you enjoy the new job!

Wow, snowboarding at lunchtime! That beats aquastep! I'm in northern france, about half an hour from the channel (hence the nickname).

Kasha, interested in 'thankfully'. What makes you say that?

I work a lot with Anglophones in France and there seems to be a spate of customers returning to UK at the moment. I'm not in a position to ask them why but I am curious.
