Transferring Australian pension cash to UK

Fordian · 24/09/2021 13:32

Has anyone done this?

DH and I have substantial pension cash in Australia. We now live in the UK.

Where can we get good advice to minimise the tax implications of getting pension/superannuation cash sent from Aus to the UK?

We'd like to keep the capital there but draw down on it in the UK.

Any thoughts welcome!

I've seen this company recommended before
www.vistafs.com.au/

For context, I'm in Australia and occasionally browse an migration forum. Not an ad!

Thanks, I'll look.

Assuming that you're over 60 there are no tax implications in Australia.

Whatever you draw will be taxed at your marginal rate in the UK.

That's it.

Wise (formerly Transferwise) are good for international transfers.

Presumably your income will begin in A$ and I read somewhere was one should keep your income and expenditure in the same currency to avoid the adverse effect of fluctuations.

So if OP is now living in the UK, how do you propose they should limit their expenditure to AUD? I don’t think Tesco would like that at the checkout.

@technophobic
I mean they should look to move their pension fund from Australia to the UK.

BurgerOnTheOrientExpress · 06/01/2022 12:23

I presume you mean private pensions as you cannot move your state pension. Personally I wouldn't be looking for advice here as there are too many factors including loss of State Pension Supplement, dual taxation rules, additional income you obtain in the UK.

To become familiar with what you are likely to be confronted by I would post on an ex-pat blog such as
