Moving to Singapore International school

I have posted a few times on here (sorry). My husband and I have decided to try and get jobs in Singapore International schools. I have 6 years experience teaching science and my husband has 10 years experience teaching English. We have two young children, so potentially would need a helper. Any ideas on what sort of salary we would expect to get a month? I know there is a huge variation but just to give us some ideas. We have a mortgage here and live quite comfortable, so ideally we don't want to move to Singapore and be worse financially. Thanks for any help.

Hiya!
Myself, husband and 2 children (7 and 9) are moving to Singapore too. (He's going out this month and we will follow in December, eek. He will be teaching in Dover Court International school and we are hoping to survive on his salary alone for a month or 2 before I start working as a Dentist.

I would say, if you are both teaching in an International school and are able to get accommodation allowance and school places (paid for) you'll be very comfortable.

Thanks for your reply! I hope the move goes well!!
What made you decide to move there?!
Have you sold your house in England or is it going up for rent?

In the middle of a pandemic it's got to be madness 🤣

It was a really random job opportunity that he was presented with, we'd always talked about living abroad for a couple of years and Singapore allows me to work without any further exams and qualifications.

Then there's the quality of education there, the chance to just have a final adventure before we well and truly settle and giving the children an experience that I'm hoping might make them slightly more interesting and cultured.

I guess after being so stagnant since Covid hit, might be a nice change.

The house is staying as it is for now, we won't rent it out just yet because it means spending a huge amount on storage and then potentially having to renovate a bit if we want to move back in. We'll probably reassess after 6 months!

Have you looked into anything in particular?

Oh that reply has made me want to move there even more!! I agree, it would be so nice to have an adventure with your children before you settle down.
My girls are still so young and thought it is a great time as I ideally would like to be settled back in england by the time they do their GCSEs.
We have only just started to think about it, so not sure where to start.
Did your husband apply for the job or was it through someone he knows? Do you get accommodation and school fees included in his package?
Sorry if that is too personal.

Not at all, he applied himself very casually, got the job a few days later, the childrens' school fees are included, he will get an accommodation allowance which will cover half the rent. If there's 2 of you working you'll get more accommodation allowance which is great.

Rent is absolutely insane there (look at property guru Singapore if you feel like having a good cry) but the salaries are high and food/travel is super cheap.

Cars are extremely expensive to own and run out there (around 4 times the price of an equivalent UK car) so as far as I'm aware most people don't own a car and use Uber type companies (which are also dirt cheap) to get about.

Google, YouTube and Singapore expat forums have been my best friends over the last 2 months as you can probably tell! 😂

My son went to a singapore international school with a British curriculum. One of his teachers mentioned that the salaries are almost twice that in the UK. Some international schools also provide free education for your kids. I expect you will be very comfortable with 2 incomes. PM me if you have any questions.
