Has anyone found an insurer that will cover travel to America?

Just that really. I have tickets that I may not be able to use as I can't find anyone to insure me and my kids Sad I'm a US citizen living in the UK. I can probably just about afford the pcr tests and can cover the self isolation on our return. But without insurance it's futile.

Thanks to anyone who answers. Really missing my family and my "home"

What do you want to be insured for?
Flight cancellations, health or something else?

You can get short term US health insurance as a visitor to the US.

www.insubuy.com/visitors-insurance/

GalesThisMorning · 14/06/2021 17:52

Health. My ticket is fully transferable, I'm not bringing anything of value, but I can't risk falling ill or having an accident.

Thank you for the link, really appreciate it

I hope it works.

I am in a similar situation. US citizen living abroad for most of my life but need to go to the US later this summer. But I do not want a massive US hospital bill if I get sick there.

GalesThisMorning · 14/06/2021 17:57

@ChimneyPot that might actually work for us. Thank you so so much, I wasnt finding anything. That's brilliant, it looks like one hurdle may actually be cleared!!

Now for a magic ball to tell me that the US won't go on the red list in the next 8 weeks...

Thank you again

Happy to help.
I hope it works. I have not tried it myself yet.

GalesThisMorning · 14/06/2021 18:12

Fingers crossed for both of us

thanks for thread, didn't realise it was that hard to get insurance. Have you got it now, Gales?

DC's USA passports have expired, bother. I need to find a notary public to renew, plus get pics, book embassy, bother. I have no idea how people are getting child-renewal appointments right now.

GalesThisMorning · 14/06/2021 21:43

I haven't booked it yet @lljkk, my flight is still 4 weeks off. But it's the only insurance site I've been on that didn't immediately tell me any insurance booked for America would be invalid. It looks like it will work which is a huge relief.

DCs British passports needed renewal, had it been the American ones I would have wept Sad I know full well what a pain it is and hope you get lucky.

This may be bad advice but we once went to the Belfast embassy when nothing was available in London! You may be sensible and decide against doing that of course, but Belfast doesn't get booked up as quickly.

Good luck. I hope you make it over as well

Looking at this info, you may not need to actually renew their passports yet. uk.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/u-s-passports/

There's a company called Battleface that sell travel insurance for places on the gvt no travel list: www.battleface.com/en-gb/

I don't know if you being a US citizen will make any difference but worth checking them out. Their customer service people are very helpful.

lljkk · 15/06/2021 00:03

Thanks for link but not eligible, the passports expired in 2019.

I would buy the insurance now, Gales; what if they change their T&C and won't cover USA after all?

Bloody hell Belfast, what did those flights cost?

If we can get to Norn, is Ireland easily allowing entry from Norn? Supposed to do that, I thought. Might be our summer holiday destination.

ChimneyPot · 15/06/2021 00:23

You can get from Northern Ireland to Ireland easily but if you have been in GB in the previous 14 days you are asked to quarantine on arrival. There are no checks at the border. There is no enforcement of this requirement but it is a request.

ChimneyPot · 15/06/2021 00:25

I haven’t checked our US passports. I had better do that in the morning.

lljkk · 15/06/2021 00:39

Thanks Chimney. I think Norn is interesting anyway, but I don't imagine going there just for passport renewal.

ragged · 15/06/2021 00:46

... only £600 for all 4 of us! Hmm. Could consider for hols, anyway.

GalesThisMorning · 15/06/2021 07:37

It was just for a single adult, the flight was about £40. It costs us more than that to get to London! Direct flight from liverpool. Obviously might not be as simple these days...

That is a very good point about buying insurance asap. Just in case it's of any use to anyone - insubuy.com was quoting about $50 for an adult and dependant child. Battleface.com was £408!!!
