Dual/IS citizens in UK - do you do your own tax return?

Just wondering what others do and looking for advice. I used to live in the US, and had an accountant prepare tax returns for me and my DH. We had a local business, so tax affairs were not totally straighforward. Now, back in the UK, it's only me who has to do tax returns (DH is british). Things are simpler in that although we have a UK small business, we don't have to file for that, so it's just me, my dependents, my UK wages, and all taxes are cancelled out by the foreign (UK) tax I pay. Other than slight variations in the wages, bank interest etc, the tax return is the same year upon year. I am still paying our US accountant to file my taxes, and the cost adds up (even though it's cheaper than getting a UK based expat tax epert to file). I am starting to wonder about just filling in the form myself, but my main concern is about the fact that every year the forms change a little, and the rules change, and I worry about making an innocent mistake and being liable for some fine. In effect the accountant is my insurance policy. Does anyone else just do it themselves? Am I worrying too much about the risk?
