Australian citizenship by descent

This isn't quite living overseas but wasn't sure where else to post. I'm an Australian citizen, have birth cert and passport. I've never lived there though. I'd like to apply for citizenship by descent for my child. It seems like she's eligible but I just wondered if anyone's done it and whether it was easy or time consuming etc.
Thanks!

We have recently gone through this for our 2 DC. It's a bit of a pain but doable. We had to supply a lot of paperwork, more than just my partner's BC and passport. It took over 6 months from when we submitted to receiving the approval.

I have applied from the UK for my kids, my applications didn't take that long and the process was pretty simple, but the last one was done a couple of years ago (pre Covid).

You mentioned that you have never lived in Australia. Are you a citizen by descent? As if so, I don't think your child is eligible unless you have spent the minimum time living in Australia.

What kind of paperwork did you need to supply? Don't mind if it takes a while to do.

I was born in Aus and have Australian birth certificate and passport. I think I'm just a citizen rather than by descent.

The paperwork is listed on this page: immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/citizenship/become-a-citizen/by-descent#HowTo

If you were born in Australia and have a passport it shouldn't be hard I think, and you can apply online. From memory it was both birth certificates, my passport, signed ID photo form. I didn't need anything translated. If you/child also have another citizenship (eg British) then you need to explain that on the form (can't remember if you also need to provide a copy of those passports, that webpage should say).

@nerdybird. Our application might have been more complicated as DH was born in NZ, but moved to Australia as a baby. He also has passports for NZ, Australia and UK and so they wanted copies of these, plus his BC and citizenship paperwork for each country. Maybe it won't be so bad for you, it just seemed a lot of work at the time!

And yes it's all online through the immigov website. I think it cost a couple of hundred pounds per child.
