We will be moving to Seattle and l wondered if anyone could advise re: areas to live. We have a primary aged child who will go into grade 5, so will first be in elementary and then middle school. My DH office is down town, so a easy commute would be good. I would like to able to walk to some shops if l can.

We were looking at northwest Seattle Bryant/Ravenna/wallingford areas...?

I'm not from Seattle, but I do know that prices have skyrocketed, so your budget may be a key factor here.

We lived in Seattle for a few years. We moved away about 5 years ago but we still have friends there.

Is he going to be working at UW? Wallingford and Ravenna are too studenty for me. Might be right up your street though, depending on your age. Personally I’d stay out of Seattle proper and look at places like Edmonds. Prices all over the PNW and along the west coast have skyrocketed over the last year. And places are going fast! A co-worker is trying to buy right now and even bidding $40k over the listing price results in her being out-bid.

Bear in mind where you live will determine which school the children go to. Unless you’re going to opt for a private school. I’d start by looking at the various schools district ratings and finding the best one and then focus on finding a house there. Obviously houses in better school districts command higher prices than those in poorer performing school districts.
