Any other UK-based US citizens hoping to travel there this year?

We have flights booked for August, but it all looks quite hopeless at the moment, despite both countries' vaccine roll outs going great.

Quarantine either end, particularly in a quarantine hotel, would mean us not going. Plus, there is a worrying new variant in CA (our destination), which could lead the US being added to the dreaded 'red list'.

@Ifailed

where is "there"?
It's literally in the title (US) and her post (CA).

My mom in California is hoping to visit us here in the UK in August, but not looking good.

She has had Moderna, and mostly shielding for past year.

I'm pretty sure there are UK based US citizens who travel to many places, I was just trying to find out where the OP was writing about.

I have a trip in August as well. I'm optimistic. We'll be vaccinated by then and many Americans will be as well. My plans will accommodate quarantine at either end if needed though hotel quarantine in the UK will definitely make me rethink.

My mother is hoping to come over in September from the UK. No quarantine here in this state (although I wouldn’t put it past our governor to introduce it). My mum will be fully vaccinated by then. She’s not a USC so she is pinning her hopes on the PP being abolished by then as she doesn’t want to have to spend 14 days in Mexico in order to get in.

My thoughts are that by then numbers will be sufficiently low enough that quarantine measures will be either significantly reduced or even abolished.

It was only in the title of the thread...Hmm

@Notalktillcoffee we could quarantine (in theory), but the thought of adding another 10 days to our already 3-week trip and another 10 days in cattery for our cat, isn't really tempting. Argh! &%$&ing coronavirus!!!

Ahh having the same conversation with my parents who are in the UK and who desperately want to visit us here in the US. They are vaccinated. DH and I will be vaccinated by May. They want to come in Oct.

I think Aug/Sept/Oct are possibilities without quarantine, but they're not quite convinced enough to actually book their flights.

zafferana · 28/02/2021 09:42

I think they're sensible to hold off for now @ZZTopGuitarSolo, particularly as they can travel outside the main summer season. A lot of people won't even consider travelling long-haul this year, so I'm sure they'll find availability at short notice. The only thing might be higher prices - there are financial advantages to taking a punt now.

My parents (US) are both vaccinated and trying to come here, but like others they are getting nervous as to whether or not the 10 day quarantine will still be in affect. So it's looking tenuous if they could come in June for DD's birthday. If they don't come, we are already looking for flights for Christmas to the States, to visit them and my siblings. I think by then most everyone will have been vaccinated. It's a bit crap though to wait, as my state is actually not doing too bad with case numbers and has recently opened up more. Would have been great to try and get there earlier this year, but it doesn't look like Boris will allow us until late May, and then if/when we come back, it's quarantine again...

Article in The Times today with some moderately encouraging information (full article here, if you subscribe: www.thetimes.co.uk/article/the-return-of-travel-everything-you-need-to-know-7kh886zbh), otherwise, the relevant bit for the US is this:

I’m keen to get to America. Is that likely to be an option this summer?
Don’t rule it out. The travel ban is still in place but with vaccination accelerating on both sides of the Pond (an aggregate of 70 million first doses to date), a new president willing to look on the UK if not favourably then at least with equanimity, and airlines lobbying for the resumption of those lucrative north Atlantic routes, progress could be quick. The word from those in the Global Travel Taskforce review is that America could be a goer from late June. That will please many Brits, who according to operator reports, continued to search for USA holidays during last year’s darkest days of rampant Covid and political unrest.

So, fingers crossed for late June onwards 🤞
