For all those very patient people who have followed this saga, I have finally arrived and joined my husband in Bermuda! It was wonderful to see him after a 10-week separation. I have a lovely house but no furniture and have a lot to do to find things to make it a home for the next three years.

We have arrived just in time for tropical storm Noel which is passing 200 miles away tonight, but it is still warm here although windy and raining.

I am very excited about starting my new life here and also really glad I will still have mn to chat on because I don't yet know anyone here and it will be great to chat with friends old and new on the internet.

Congratulatons on finally getting there Anorak.

anorak · 06/11/2007 15:23

Hamilton harbour cod?

So lovely this morning walking to school in warm sunshine and everyone says good morning to you and smiles...very rare you meet anyone sullen here.

And the school rules are great - no lunchables allowed, everyone has to smile and take care of one another and they have to speak quietly and be considerate...oh I so hope my children can learn to speak quietly and be considerate, how wonderful would that be?

Memphis Tennessee. I have a thread in Living Overseas about it, so have a peek there for details. Is only a possibility at the mo though, and I think that dh is going off the idea a little himself (poss due to my lack of enthusiasm!).

School run sounds lovely. How did their first day go - lots of new friends made?

princessmel · 06/11/2007 20:34

Wow I remember the thread when you couldn't decide whether to go or not.

How exciting.

I hope you settle in well and enjoy it.

How long is it going to be for? I think I remember that it was only a temporary stay.

Have you had to move kids too??

Hulababy · 06/11/2007 20:34

Great to hear that you are finally there!

Good luck with your new exciting life in Bermuda!

princessmel · 06/11/2007 20:37

Just read the other posts. Sounds great

anorak · 07/11/2007 14:14

Ok CSWS will check out your thread.

Yes it's 3 years. Moved DD aged 15 and DS aged 7. DD came in yesterday from her first day at school and said 'I can't wait for tomorrow to come so that I can go back to school. I love it.'

I was so happy and relieved, DS likes his school too. What more could I want? DS's class are going for a neighbourhood walk today to see what this locality has to offer, and part of the trip is to be given a tour of the island's dairy. He'll be able to help the rest of us out with some local knowledge after that, isn't that fab for a 7 year old to do?

I've learned something important today though! You can walk half a mile with two, three, or even four plastic carrier bags but you can't do it with two wanky American-style paper grocery sacks

Hello! It's been ages since I last saw one of your threads - hope all's going well and thinking of you.

anorak · 08/11/2007 01:51

Hi Dotty! How are you? I haven't been around much as just before I left I spent 4 weeks staying with my sister and her computer isn't very well, so I didn't get a chance to post much.

DS came back from school with chocolate milk all round his mouth from the dairy. I took the bus into Hamilton and had lunch with my husband on a cafe balcony overlooking the harbour in the sunshine. It's all just too fab...

Hi Anorak - thrilled for you that the long waiting period/separation is over, and that you are now in your fab new place with your dh. Glad it's going well so far - long may it continue!

alibubbles · 08/11/2007 12:01

Anorak, great new start for you and your family. I can't believe that your DS is 7! Where has the time gone?

Dinosaur · 08/11/2007 12:16

Anorak I'm so happy for you! Enjoy your new life!

herbiemom · 08/11/2007 13:08

I'm glad you and your family are settling in so well.

I'm insanely jealous though. When I was a child we had several holidays to Bermuda and those holidays are the happiest memories of my life (before the DC came along, of course!). What a beautiful place and such lovely people. My Dad knows a few people out there and everyone we met was so friendly and happy - you are soooo lucky!

I'm saving up to go back for a holiday so maybe you'll get to have a meet-up with a fellow MNer if I manage to get enough dosh together in the next 3 years!

anorak · 08/11/2007 16:32

Afternoon all! Get your piggy bank out herbiemom!

Had a lovely morning, walked DS to school in the sunshine then went to a massive charity shop in a huge hall and browsed for bits and pieces for my new house and then strolled back home down a quiet lane lined with pastel cottages and palm trees, watched a stork fly away over my head then turned into the lane where I live, walked past the basil field in front of my house and breathed in the scent...I can't believe this is happening to me!

How wonderful, anorak. Say hello to my cousin if you meet him

(don't you just love it when people say that? An American couple we met in Canada- "Oh, you're from England? My Aunt lives in Birming-ham... do you know her?"

anorak · 11/11/2007 22:15

DH's job is very busy and pressured because as he puts it, he is the knight on a white charger come to rescue everyone but if that wasn't happening we wouldn't be here. But on the other hand, office life in general here is less pressured than in England so it is balanced.

Had a good day today, did some shopping and spent a couple of hours sitting on a balcony overlooking Hamilton harbour drinking dark and stormies. Then we came home to chill out here. It's amazing when you have to wear a long-sleeved top in mid-November because you're not sure if you'll be warm enough in shorts and a T-shirt and people apologise to you because it's getting cold now!

Got a bank holiday tomorrow so we might go to the beach.

Sounds fab anorak.

What's a dark and stormie? Sounds like the weather here

anorak · 11/11/2007 22:28

It's the national drink here, dark rum and ginger beer - it's yummy.

I forgot to mention, DD saw Catherine Zeta-Jones a week to the day after we arrived. She gave a speech at a school prize-giving. I asked DD what she had said and she said 'I dunno, I wasn't listening it was all boring speeches and stuff. Something about Wales I think'

Then yesterday one of DH's colleagues saw CZJ and MD out in Hamilton at lunchtime doing their shopping like everyone else. (only spending more, probably)
