Emigrating to Australia

I know this is not possible until atleast mid 2022 but as it's a huge change we would like to get as much info as possible from people who have done it, particularly young families from the UK.
Can I ask does anyone know the cost to have all furniture etc shipped ?
We would be looking at Sydney specifically Coogee, Bronte, Manley, or Gold Coast
Should add I lived in Sydney suburbs and travelled for over a year 7 years ago so am aware how expensive Sydney is in comparison
Also will add my DH has a very niche job that is on the skilled list that I don't see being taken off fingers crossed

Particularly interested in how long the process takes from start to finish
Any info welcome

My DH's company started talking about moving him to Syd in April, I came in May to have a look/feel and after my return, paperwork started for a 457 visa (which no longer exist, sponsor visa) and we were here on a temporary visa in September. Our container which left when we did arrived early December. We still had to buy furniture because unless you go in an airbnb you need a bed to sleep in and a kettle to boil water. Maybe consider selling your furniture and buying new. Our container was paid by company. Careful when choosing the house as moving is crazy expensive. To move from one house to another in the same suburb costed as much as a container from Europe to here (we had a very good quote for container and warehouse, something like 4000 7 years ago)

My only piece of advice, would be to come only once you have secured a job, because covid has been a massacre on jobs, even niche, extra qualified jobs, and the job market is really messed up now. My best friend's DH was a advertisement star here making all the car ads for many companies and he has been without a job since March

Thanks @LeGrandBleu the processs didn't tAke that long then.
I don't think we will be able to secure a job first as we will want to spend 6 months deciding where to live / getting settled as a family. I honestly have no doubts re DH's job but I am confused as to options for example just because his job is on the skilled list does he just apply because of that or does he have to try and get sponsored ? Am I right in thinking there is a company who actually guides you from start to finish and advises the best Visa to apply for?

Yes, using an immigration agent is key to success and will solve a lot of headaches.
We came on a sponsored visa, not a skilled one so not sure how it works for skilled.
Six months without a salary in Australia will use a lot of savings so be mindful of that. There are a couple of websites worth checking: pomsinoz and British expats, people will be going to rough that process right now

Perhaps register now with seek.com.au to start getting a feel for the market.

I live on the Gold Coast in Queensland. The job market isn't great here, your husband may be better off looking at the bigger cities (Sydney and Brisbane). But definitely look at seek.com.au for where the jobs are.

We moved here back in 2007 but we used a migration agent which was really good. From our first contact with her, to getting on a plane was about 6 months but my husband got a job easily back then (banking) and we were on a 457, whilst also applying for PR through the points system.
We moved into a furnished apartment for 3 months and then found a place when we were here, which worked well. Have a look at Meriton apartments or Fraser Suites.
We got our PR within the year and citizenship 5 years or so later.
Commuting in Sydney can be a balls ache so have a look at where your husband would be working and base where you live around that. If he’s in the city then your areas are fine. You have picked some of the priciest areas in Sydney though, but if you want to be by the beach you do have lots of choice.
Good luck!
