Where in the world...?

We live abroad right now, and it ticks A LOT of our boxes. We have a nice life here, we are happy and we feel luck to live here. But a recent visit to another city made us wonder if it could be just us as good in other places too.

Is there somewhere else that would tick everything?

Good summers with watersports close by (under 30 mins)
Snowy winters with wintersports close by (under 60 mins)
Low crime
High salaries
City feel with variety in entertainment and shops
Good transport links
Good public schools (or affordable private)
Good travel opportunities either by car, plane or train

10 points if you can guess where I am now!

Never been to Biarritz or Munich, will add them to the list, though I expect Biarritz might not be corporate enough for my current line of work.

We’ve lived in Aus before and although we had a great time, I don’t know about going back. I think we’d forgo the skiing if in that part of the world after living right next to world class European resorts Wink. I thought NZ was beautiful but boring....

Have lived in Canada before as well. It was fun, I was young and single and had a great time actually. But don’t feel drawn to go back massively. Though agree Vancouver is a great city with a lovely lifestyle generally.

Love the SoF generally, but again poss not corporate enough.

California is pretty much where I think would give here a run for its money....

Boston, Massachusetts. Ticks all those boxes

@GreenNeedles if you agree to stretch the skiing distance, then Monaco is a good choice. 2 hours from ski slopes and with the added bonus of its proximity with Italy, plenty of great food and trips.

Zurich.

Oh dear, we lived in Switzerland, not exactly a happy country . If it has to be Switzerland, at least pick Lugano so you can escape to Milan for some fun, fashion and hear people laughing in bars and restaurants (post covid of course)

We live an hour south of Valencia, which is a beautiful city similar to Barca, without the high prices . There is a ski resort an hour away and I don't need to mention the water sports in the summer. We absolutely love it .

LeGrandBleu · 23/12/2020 23:35

@bert3400 I agree Valencia is gorgeous but it fails the High Salary criteria....

I live in a beach town in the Los Angeles area and it checks almost all your boxes. Downsides are obviously cost of housing and no public transport.

Good summers with watersports close by (under 30 mins) - all of these are nearby and can be done year round
Snowy winters with wintersports close by (under 60 mins) - more than 60 mins but we have good skiing within a few hours drive and if you don’t mind flying getting to Utah is really quick and easy
Low crime - people here love to complain about the increase in crime but for a big city area it is very safe, a lot of the local crimes stem from car or house doors being left open
High salaries -lots of well paying jobs
City feel with variety in entertainment and shops - yep
Good transport links - no trains and traffic can be bad but the road network is extensive
Good public schools (or affordable private)- my area has great schools
Good travel opportunities either by car, plane or train - so many places within driving distance - the Grand Canyon, mountains, wine country.

I love living here, people complain about California going to hell but it is still by far the best place I have lived. Even though house prices are high the overall cost of living isn’t so terrible and there is so much to do for free
