Hi

Son was born abroad to two British parents. We live in the UK but I spent some time abroad with baby. Been using a private GP. How do I now sign up for a GP without an NHS number for him?

I mean we've been using a private GP in the UK. Son is now 4.

I don't think you need a nhs number. Just be able to show that you are resident. At least that's how it was when I signed myself up (not british) when I moved to the UK 20 years ago.

I believe they need a passport and proof of residence ie child's citizenship/visa?

Thanks. He wouldn't have citizenship papers as he's British so would more than a passport be needed?

He will be allocated an nhs number when you register, call the practice you want to use as they may require some details from you such as passport or proof of address but his passport should be sufficient

If you live in the U.K. it will be fine. Just need proof of ID and proof of address.
