Dubai - Relocation & Shipping Companies

Morning :)

Has anyone done the move from the UK to Dubai? I am moving with very short notice at the end of the month (thanks COVID) and am looking into shipping my goods but am not sure of any reputable companies. Quotes seem to vary widely so was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations.

Thanks!

I don't have a specific company to recommend as the one we used has gone out of business but make sure you are well insured, quote included packing and unpacking and are aware of the shipping times. They always underestimate. There are not often direct routes to DXB and three month waits are common and compounded due to covid.. Sometimes air freighting essentials, buying new and renting furnished accomodation is easier.
That said I have shipped a 40ft container to several destinations and don't really regret it but wish I could be a little lighter to shift.

Thank you so much for the advice.

I am trying to decide if it is worth bringing all the household applicances such as fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, tumbler drier etc or whether to just take the essentails. It's my first big move where I own furniture as I bought a house a year ago and am unsure what the best way to do it is!

I would not bring appliances aside small ones like coffee machines if you are attached to them.
You can rent fully or partially furnished apartments easily.
If the company is paying you could ask for airfreight and bring your essentials with you. There is IKEA and a big second hand market on FB.
Beds tend to be USA size so possibly don't bring bedding.

We have used Allied Pickfords with no issues. However I would disagree with PP about bringing white goods. If you are bringing your furniture then the vast majority of unfurnished properties you could rent will NOT have any white goods in the kitchen. We had to buy the lot and Dubai is not cheap. Additionally, the electricity and plugs are the same so you won't have any compatibility issues.

Be aware you will most likely also need to buy curtains/ blinds/ poles/ light fittings - everything.

I have not moved to Dubia but other overseas places to/from the UK.

Used Allied Pickfords a few times who tend to be the most expensive as well as Crown Relocations. Britannia were dreadful with communications which gave me no confidence in the rest of the service

A lot of companies use Pickfords maybe thats why they are so expensive, so make sure you tell them its a private move not company. Both company's were fine and nothing damaged/broken as the packing service was very good, oh just thought one mattress was badly marked as the cardboard packaging was torn off.

Cannot comment re large white goods as we have either bought our own or rented propertys which had the basics, but I would take mattresses/bedding/towels to see you through
