Evening all!!Been living in Italy all my adult life.Children born and schooled here moved to the UK at different times and are now all married ,are parents and are settled and happy.

I am in good health and so is Italian husband.I am at the point in life where Italian pension is around the corner.Kids are settled in the UK as mentioned above . I also have elderly parents there too.

Getting to the point,of late been thinking of going back to England myself in some measure.Haven't had much contact there in 40 odd years apart from the once or twice a year visits. Of course it's one thing the occasional visit and another thing living there. How has it become?? My family are all settled there but occasionally I get to hear some things that make my ears curl (nothing particular just the random thing). Also I am fed up of the Italian system, political and burocratic.Yes it's a nice place to holiday and eat pizza .Anything to say anybody??

I think the weather would be a shock if you are used to lovely Mediterranean weather.

If you're thinking of moving with your husband, is that still possible after Brexit? I don't think Italy is that bureaucratic except when you first arrive so surely you'll have similar problems setting up in the UK?

I can understand the pull if your kids and parents live in the UK. Especially during Covid uncertainty.

Do you feel you'll have a better quality of life in the UK?

Thanks all for your comments.I suppose the weather would be an issue.Wasn't thinking of moving over yet or with husband. Was thinking of the future. At 60+ won't be having anymore children, work wise we are trying to wind down.No more long term investments, just chugging along.Italy is nice for holidays and visits but living here properly you realise that the whole place is corrupt and the people supposed to be governing it are a load of muppets.

That's really well I had in mind when I asked how is England.Don't want to get into politics about it.

I used to think that about Italy - I now think it's probably universal so you may as well stay where there's good food. Grin I am interested in the logistics of whether an Italian can move to the UK in retirement though, just to keep my options open! I thought you had to have a minimum salary?
