Transporting your cats (or any animal!) abroad

Does anyone have any recommendations for reliable companies that can help transport cats overseas (in this case to the Channel Islands).

Is there any benefit of flying rather than going by sea? (I'm guessing the length of time makes flying preferable).

I've had two quotes so far, one by air and another which looks to be by sea, but there didn't seem to bethat much of a difference in price.

Curious to hear from anyone that has used either of these options.

We live in the Channel Islands. Most people will bring their animals with them on the ferry in the car. Alternatively there are some private pilots who will do the transport for you. At current time borders are closed for Bailiwick of Guernsey for non essential travel. As an aside plenty of people transport their horses from Jersey and Guernsey to the UK and back and they’re fine. Let me know which Island and if relevant to my location then I could ask around for you.

Thanks @bouncydog. We're relocating to Jersey July/August time - so hopefully things will be relatively back to "normal" then. I understand that they're looking to resume ferry services mid-June.

For some reason my initial thought had been to fly them, we're closer to Gatwick/Heathrow than Poole, and with one very nervous cat i was thinking to just "get it over and done with" by air. That said, we were quoted 1K for the two of them by PetAir UK.

Food for thought though, thank you.

They would probably be less stressed in the car with a mild tranquilliser and it’s not terribly expensive. We used to transport my daughter’s horse back and forth to University with her and she was fine. Yes Jersey is being rather more relaxed than Guernsey.

Do not use a tranquilliser on a plane (just in case you were thinking to do so).
