Access to France now during lock down

Half of our family are in France and half in UK. We were all supposed to be in France but I stayed with one of the kids as GCSEs were coming up and we were going to join them after they closed the schools but now too late as they closed the borders pretty much. We are not French or permanent residents. Any thoughts or ideas of how or if we could possible join them to finish the lock down in house there (rented, not owned) has anyone travelled since they closed the border to non French, or non EU mainland residents?

If so do you know what if any documents are needed or requested and what is permitted or not permitted.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

But lockdown doesn’t mean the OP hasn’t been outside her house. She may have been shopping etc so could have the virus.

What happens when the rental runs out on the property in France? This virus isn’t going away. Yes we won’t be in lockdown for a year but travel restrictions may still apply.

Well, you can drive from the U.K. to France within a day quite easily depending where you live, and so there would be minimal contact with anyone except border controls, who will be wearing gloves and masks. I'm sure the OP would be careful to wash/antibac hands at any loo stop.

So, they will come into contact with people then.

If both sets of the family have been in lockdown for 2 weeks and no one is showing any symptoms then it is unlikely they have the virus and therefore are not spreading it.

If.

My family is in France and we were out there when the lock down came in. We got home as soon as we were able.

Even in lockdown people are going out to buy food, which means some contact with other people, although the supermarkets were trying to enforce people keeping their distance.

Just for info there are plenty of family units within France who are split up by this ( ours is one). The French don't do wriggle room, hence the need for attestations.

Our son is a couple of hours drive up the road in a safe place, locked in on his own- the regs don't allow for us to meet up with him.

I think the issue is ( Border crossing aside) it appears the OP is choosing to move from one "safe place" to another "safe place"., ..a Gendarme might not be very impressed.

@Banya400 Good luck my dear. I hope you and your family are reunited soon.

Fortyfifty · 03/04/2020 11:31

@Therabble No difference. That wasn't my point. I was asking how necessary it is for them all to be in France. There's so much uncertainty over school, lockdown duration - it makes more sense for all the family to be in their country of residence if they all need to be together - which I wouldn't dispute.

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 10/04/2020 00:12

I'm pretty sure you are allowed by the French government to move to reunite a family.

From 8 April you'll also need this form if boarding a flight (good luck with that Shock) or at French land borders

Moving countries is completely different to taking a holiday Hmm

(I live in France)

Can't see the box to tick for for that....

Presumably the OP has sorted this out but for anyone else considering this I do know the Border Police and also the carriers (e.g. those few airlines operating between a few French/UK airports) are being more and more rigid in their interpretation of the rules, especially after the introduction of the new attestation.

Also need to think about health care costs. An ehic, I think, is only valid for 3 months.
