Areas to consider when relocating to Dubai with no school requirement

My husband has been offered a job in Dubai Internet City and we are looking at properties on the internet before visiting. Our children are older - so whilst we need 3 beds for when they visit, we do not need to be near schools.
Lots of properties are coming up near the Polo Resort.
I am looking for location recommendations, apartment or villa with access to a pool, that young adults would be happy to visit, we would like to live and my husband has a reasonable commute.
Any advice to aid with sorting through the listings would be very welcome.
Thank you

The Villa is a really nice community.

AgentProvocateur · 23/03/2020 19:01

Definitely the Marina. The Villa is miles away from internet City. The Marina is close by, with bars and restaurants.

Oh, when you said polo resort I thought you meant near Al Habtoor Polo Club.

The Greens and the Views. I had a flat in Golf Towers, the Views for 10 years,

Definitely Dubai Marina! Really nice community with expats, very pretty with restaurants, bars and a mall with Waitrose. Very close to internet city.

Forgot, if you want to be close to the beach JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residences) is also nice but the traffic coming in and out will be worse than the marina. It's still very close though, less than 10min in a car.

The Walk at JBR is a nice beach walk with lots of restaurants and little shops, you feel like you're on holiday when you're there. Most apartments will have a communal pool in Dubai.

Jumeira and Umm Suqueim are the original “expat” communities and rents have fallen drastically in the past few years. Many rental villas and villa complexes have pools, there are lots of Instagrammable cafes, varied choice of takeaway restaurants, expat-friendly supermarkets and British-managed beauty salons and vets. Commute from Umm Suqueim/ Al Manara/ Al Thanya/ Al Sufouh to Dubai Internet City is relatively short.

Depends what your budget is really.

The Marina/JBR is cool if you want to be close to restaurants, bars, the beach etc but it’s busy and noisy almost 24/7 (I say that as someone who lived in JBR for 8 years)

If you’re looking for suburbia, then Arabian Ranches 1 and 2 are a good option. AR1 is older, greener and some of the homes have private pools) Both have small community centers with supermarkets, nail salons, pharmacies etc. AR1 also has a golf club if that’s your thing.

Dubai Hills is also a new and increasingly popular community. Decent central location, modern and spacious villas and also a very nice golf club (with restaurants/bars) As it’s so new it’s not very green yet and there’s still quite a bit of construction going on.

Otherwise there’s Jumeirah 1/2/3 - much older villas that have a very different feel to a lot of the rest of Dubai. Some will have private pools although as they aren’t in gated communities as such, you won’t have things like a Carrefour or Spinneys on your doorstep.

Downtown is another area worth considering if you’re after trendy, urban living. Lots going on there - bars, restaurants, the opera house, Dubai Mall etc. I have small kids so for me it’s too busy/noisy but I have lots of single/childless friends who have cool loft style apartments there.

I'm going to post what I just did on another thread - be very very careful before giving up a job to move to Dubai at the moment. Your DH should be absolutely certain the company is rock solid. Some in IC might be (the really big names) but a large number won't be and there are significant job losses to come. My opinion is Dubai is going to crash really hard. It was already on a slowdown and (like everywhere) there have been a lot of job losses in the last two months but it's going to get even worse.

Failedtothinkofanythingorigina · 10/04/2020 18:49

Oh and for areas Emirates Hills and the Palm as well. I wouldn't commute from downtown personally.

As someone has said, budget makes a big difference.
