Anyone in the Middle East?

We are in Bahrain and I am a little nervous of the impending 'revenge attacks' from Iran.
I hear that some people are leaving Bahrain - US families mainly. Given the size of Bahrain and the proximity to Iran, as well as the level of US interests here, I am wondering if the kids and I should head back to the uk for a bit. I guess it's a similar position to Kuwait and some parts of Saudi. Anyone else in the region feeling similarly?

Name changed back to an old name.
We lived about an hour west of you until this summer. I am exceedingly glad we came back - we would have been caught up in the Abqaiq oil field drone attacks if we had stayed. The issues in the straits, plus this latest attack make me thing a couple of months isnt really going to sort things.
There is lots of talk on my Facebook at the moment about grab bags, evacuation plans, pet evacuation, but most people seem to be staying. I guess KSA has the advantage of land borders with Kuwait, UAE, Oman (Qatar!) making multiple exit points. I guess you are reliant on the airport (or get yourself a KSA Visa, and risk the bridge).
It's not a decision I would want to be making right now. But if you dont believe it's safe for you and the kids, why is it ok for your husband to stay?

Someonesayroadtrip · 06/01/2020 12:08

How long is a bit? What about your husband? What about the children's schooling? How old are they?

sandpitnerves · 06/01/2020 13:51

He would come too. He has a business here so may need to put some things in place first. Kids young enough that it would be no big deal if they missed some school. KSA visa is a good idea and I've heard others discuss that option here.
I guess the problem is that nobody knows when an attack would come, if ever, so how long do you plan to stay away. I don't know.

I'm in Saudi. Not really panicking. Should I be?!

We're in Bahrain too, we were also here during the uprising. We've always had an emergency bag ready, but won't let the situation run our lives. Yes of course we watch the news, DH works next to (and with!) the navel base so we're fully aware of what's going on and receive additional security information. The one niggle I have is our eldest goes to senior school in Isa Town and we're in Saar, not quite an 'easy grab' distance.

Meanwhile, its business as usual. After school activities, brunch of Friday, homework and tutors on Saturday. The point I'm making is stay aware, always be ready to go but continue to live life as normally as possible.

Happy Thursday!

Thanks @camelsandcaramel I suspect we probably know each other in some way! I'm much more relaxed about it now. Seems to have de-escalated. I wouldn't have been particularly worried if I was anywhere else in the region tbh. Just being on an island this tiny with one airport and this close to Iran etc etc. All seems well now anyway. :)

I'm in the UAE, and where I work is actually a target, but I'm not even remotely worreid. Frankly I was more worried during the Arab Spring then I am now.

We left KSA a while ago, after missiles were fired into our area of the city from Yemen. It depends on your own feelings. I was getting nervous and anxious, so we decided to leave. Most of our friends and neighbours also left the country.
