Hiya

We're thinking of emigrating to New Zealand because my husband has been offered a job over there, but I'm not sure that I really want to go, so I was just wondering if anyone could give me some of the good and bad things over there? I'm being given lots of information about it, but I just wanted some personal opinions.

We'd be moving into Canterbury btw and as you might have guessed from the nickname I have triplets and twins on the way, so is there much for the kids to do?

Thanks xx

We lived in Auckland for 3.5 years, had citizenship papers all filled out, then discovered I was pregnant and got hit by a massive urge to come home. It's so so far away that if you want your kids to know your family that's a really big consideration. Having said that, loads of my friends' families had emigrated when they were tiny and generally they had lots of 'aunties' and 'uncles' instead and wouldn't have swapped their open outdoor childhood for anything. And that was in the city! I don't know Christchurch and Canterbury other than from a couple of short visits but generally New Zealanders seem to take full advantage of their beaches and mountains, caves and skies so I can't imagine the kids will be bored.

hi, I am an Aussie living in Christchurch and it's a lovely place. There are a lot of people from the UK living here. The weather gets rather cold, and the houses don't have central heating like in the UK, but otherwise it's really nice here. Lots to do especially when you get to know other mums who can give you lots of suggestions. As mentioned, it can be hard being away from family.

I posted on your other thread

hello vizzbuzz, how are you?

twentypence · 21/08/2007 06:10

Putting in central heating isn't actually that expensive (compared to the benefit!). It's just it won't be radiators.

I love it here, and you will certainly gets lots of people talking to you when they see all your children!

MrsJohnCusack · 21/08/2007 06:54

Starting a business? Wow! Good luck - very impressed
I am doing much better; children seem less ill, baby is sleeping more, making more friends and getting some more music...generally feeling much less post natal and fed up. And spring is in the air!

mrsjc doing something else is helping keep me sane (well sane-ish). It's a net business so I can work when it suits me. Hasn't the weather been amazing!?
