International baccalaureate for entry to German universities

I've done some reading and understand that it is valid but may require certified translations, and languages may be a problem (it's hard to work out whether she'll be able to take 3 languages) but just wondering whether anyone has personal experience of this? Anything anyone can tell me?

my ds attended an international school and there were students there taking the IB and planning to go back to Germany to study at university. They had to take standard or higher level maths - not maths studies - for their qualification to be considered the equivalent of the Abitur.
Normally IB students take two languages - either one A and one B or two As which result in a bilingual diploma. Given the other requirements -one science, maths, one humanities, I think the only area where you could swap a subject would be the one arts subject. My ds took two sciences and no arts subject. It would not have been possible at his school to take three languages, but you would need to check with the school your child attends and what the IB rules are.

Thanks Shanghai that's useful.

It is possible to do 3 languages but many schools will not offer that as an option.

For information about the recognition of IB by German universities look here

This is the IB site which gives information about different countries recognition of the diploma

marcopront thanks, I've read those but they are indeed useful.

My worry is that one of the languages has to be a foreign language, which would mean taking 3 as most universities require English and German but neither of these are foreign languages, and her German school Zeugnisse refer to her being a native English speaker in the text...

Also she'd like to study languages so needs at least 3 going in!

I'm not sure how the languages can be juggled...

I was somewhat hoping someone else with a half English, half German child would have experience, but I guess that was a long shot.
