Special needs education in America

Hubby works for the London base of an American company. He's in NY this week and has told one of the higher up's if there is anyway of transferring to the states that we would. The only thing i'm concerned about is the education system in regards to special needs as my eldest is going to need a specialist school that caters for speech and language difficulties.
How do i find out the basic's like which area's are good. Is it like the UK (postcode lottery?)

You can look at the both the State's Education website, and also at the individual school district.

Where I used to live in Ohio, there were both special schools, and inclusion, provided by the state and school district. I'm sure there are hoops to jump through, just as there are in the UK. ISTR my friend having to apply for funding for her child.

Cheer's science teacher, found that one the other day. Looking more for someone who's gone through it. I think their IEP is like our statements.
Waiting for hubby to text, e-mail to say wherever or not he has managed to chat with a VP yesterday. Just fed up with country, both education and NHS (speech therapy) have deteriated over the years.
