Melbourne schools in bayside area

Hi! We are moving from London to Melbourne at the end of the year. Smile We have two boys, 5 and 8. We are currently looking at living in Highett or Sandringham (prob Highett as a bit cheaper and the pound is diving!!) but keen to know the local intel - the good, the bad, the ugly! My husband and I will both be working in the city and are aware of the commute but think it may just be doable! Also primary schools - we are looking at a few - Sandringham, Sandringham East, Black Rock - would be great to hear any local thoughts on style, rep etc. Thank you! Smile So hard to work all this out when you’re so far away!

Hi, I'm a Melbourne local.

The area you're looking at is highly affluent, both suburbs. You're really not going to see a dramatic difference other than small nit-picky things. They're all well funded, clean cut, white collar type schools.

The commute will be nothing compared to what most in Melbourne do. These are inner suburbs, many commute 1+ hours on the train from regional areas every day for work.

Thanks Solandis. That’s useful. Wow, one plus hours is a lot... the distances will be an adjustment. We live in tiny shoe boxes in London with no cars and just rely on nifty public transport! Can you recommend other nice bayside suburbs which may be a little less expensive but still good for city access, families etc?
