Hi,

My partner and myself are currently in talks with immigration lawyers about emigrating to Canada. We spent the most wonderful 6 months there a few years back and want to go back permanently!

Has anybody moved to Canada without a job offer and gone the express entry route? Or any other ways. I need some tips, advice and maybe a reality check. Our immigration lawyer seems to think our work experience and qualifications are enough to start the process.

We moved here on express entry but I did have a job offer. Same system but a job offer gives you more points - although they've changed the scoring system so less than it used to. Having said that you can easily calculate how many points you have for qualifications and work experience etc to see if you have enough www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/federal-skilled-workers/six-selection-factors-federal-skilled-workers.html. You'll get points of the time you spent in Canada previously.

Once you are in the pool that's when having a job offer gives you a higher score. It is those with the highest scores that get selected - they usually publish the threshold somewhere. There are schemes to match people to employers or areas looking for skilled workers.
